PW was cooperative but lacked information. He was unobservant. Information seems unreliable.

4. LOCATION & ACTIVENES OF UNITS:
O/a 29 Jan 51, the 2nd Bn was on a hill, engaged in security duties. US unit attacked 28 Jan 51 and the PW surrendered, using a safe conduct pass.
PW heard that the entire 38th Army was resting with no intentions of going on the offensive at present.

5. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted Sep 47 into the CNA at TAKU SHAN (大古山).
Captured by the CCF Sep 46 at TAKU SHAN and assigned to the present unit.
38th Army departed Dec 48 and arrived at TIENCHING Jan 49.
Departed TIENCHING Mar 49 and arrived at HUNAN SHENG (湖南省) Apr 49.
Departed HUNAN SHENG Nov 49 and arrived at HONAN SHENG (河南省) Jan 50.
Departed HONAN SHENG Aug 50 and arrived at TIEH LING (鉄嶺) Sep 50.
Departed TIEH LING Oct 50 and arrived at ANTUNG in the same month.
334th Regt marched into SINUIJU utilizing mountain trails during their movement south.
Upon reaching the SUWON area, PW unit was first committed to battle since entering KOREA.

6. FOOD AND AMMD SUPPLIES:
Food was procured locally in sufficient amount. No stock piles or transportation of supplies were noted.

7. SIGNAL:
Company level units employed runners. Battalion and higher telephones.

8. MORALE & BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
Morale was 1ow due to over exposure to the weather and long marches.

9. MEDICAL:
A few cases of frozen feet were noted. No treatment was administered.

10. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
a. Yes. PW was a farmer CNA soldier and had contemplated surrendering for a long time.
b. Did you see any UN leaflets or hear UN loudspeaker broadcasts?
a. Yes, on 15 Jan 51.
c. Can you describe what they said?
a. It read: “It is useless for the CCF troops to suffer, so surrender at your first chance and good treatment and food will be given you.”
d. What was your reaction to them?
a. PW believed its contents and his desire to surrender became stronger.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcasts? What did they say or do?
a. Negatives.
