1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was talkative and seemed sincere.
He was never interested in military operations because he was a horse tender.
Information seems fairly reliable.

Note: M92 Inf Gun(九二歩兵炮) was drawn by one horse. PW never saw it fired or saw it in a firing position. PW did not know the calibre of this piece. The piece was mounted on a flat platform with 4 wheels. The bore was approx 30 inches long and approx 4 inches in diameter. Ammo was approx 12 inches long, round and larger at the head and gradually tapering off to the fin. PW first noticed this piece in Korea when he joined his unit Dec 50.

Personnel losses were caused chiefly by UN air strikes.
26 Jan 51, the 447th Regiment was never engaged in ground combat since coming to Korea.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
26 Jan 51, the 447th Regt was approx 12 Km S of SEOUL and was marching S.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW was conscripted into the CNA at SSUCHUAN SHENG (四川省) Dec 49 and assigned to CNA 2nd Army, 164th Division.
PW captured by the CCF 50th Army at SSUCHUAN SHENG Jan 50 and assigned to CCF 50th Army, 150th Division, 447th Regiment as a horse tender.
Feb 50, the 50th Army arrived at HUPEI (湖北) and engaged in constructing irrigation ditches.
Sep 50, the 50th Army departed HUPEI and arrived CHAO YANG CHEN (朝陽鎭), MANCHURIA Oct 50.
PW was taken ill at CHAO YANG CHEN and sent to ANTUNG for rehabilitation.
PW and four others departed ANTUNG Dec 50 and entered KOREA. After marching for 7 hours they joined the 447th Regiment.
447th Regiment marched S through P’YONGYANG and SEOUL.
PW was taken ill and was separated from his unit 26 Jan 51 approx 12 Km S of SEOUL.
PW was captured by the US 15th Regiment at CS 3630 on 29 Jan 51.

6. FOOD, AMMO, AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
Food was procured from farmers.
While marching, each man of the 447th Regiment carried 2 days food ration.
No ammo was supplied since entering KOREA.

7. SIGNAL:
Company and higher echelons used telephones for communications. Lower echelons used runners.
To warn of the approach of enemy troops or aircraft, look-outs placed on high places blew a whistle which make a sound like a crying baby. Signal was relayed form position to position.

8. MORALE:
Morale of the 447th Regiment troops was low. Troops believed that victory cannot be gained because US beat JAPAN and JAPAN was stronger than CHINA.

9. MEDICAL:
Approx 30% of the troops in 447th Regiment were suffering from dysentery, stomach ache, or frozen feet.
For frozen feet, there was no treatment.

10. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
a. PW was captured.
b. Did you see any UN leaflets or hear UN loudspeaker broadcasts?
a. Yes.
c. Can you describe what they said?
a. No, PW cannot read.
d. What was your reaction to them?
a. Negative.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcasts? What did they say or do?
a. No.
