PW was very cooperative and gave info freely.
Info seems fairly reliable.

 Equipment Losses: One LMG was turned in for repair.
 Two rounds 75mm Mort ammunition were carried by two men who were not issued any weapons. This rifle plat had no mort.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
The 10th Div Hq was located approx 6 Km NW of CHISO-DONG, ANDOK MYON from 25 - 26 Jan 51.
25th Regt CP was located approx 1 Km S of the 3rd Bn CP which was located approx 500 meters N of CHISO-DONG as of 26 Jan 51, when PW deserted from the 8th Co of the 3rd Bn.
1st Bn of the 25th Regt was approx 1 Km S of the 3rd Bn CP.
2nd Bn of the 25th Regt was approx 3 Km SE over a hill from the 3rd Bn.
The objective of the 10th Div was ANDONG (DR 7546), but the div just passed by about 12 Km E of the city o/a 17 Jan 51, and arrived at CHISO-DONG (ER 0022) 23 Jan 51.
PW heard from his comrades that the mission of the 10th Div was to disrupt UN supply lines in the rear and to harass South Korean civilians and farmers.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW conscripted at KUMHWA GUN along with about 150 others on 14 Dec 50.
PW and about 1,000 untrained conscriptees departed from KUMHWA (CT 0538) 18 Dec 50 (on foot) and arrived at HWACH’ON (CT 8618) 25 Dec 50.
Upon arriving at HWACH’ON, PW and the group were immediately assigned to the 10th Div, which was organized here.
After the 10th Div was organized, the 6th and 9th Div arrived at HWACH’ON (CT 8618) between 25 and 27 Dec 50.
The entire 10th Div departed from HWACH’ON 27 Dec 50 (on foot) and proceeded south.
While traveling southward, the 10th Div passed the fol name places: HONGCH’ON (DR 0272), CHUCH’ON (DS 3524), YONGWOL (DS 5315), TANYANG (DR 3988), YONGJU (DR 5675), 12 Km E of ANDONG (DR 7546), CHIRI-DONG and arrived at CHISO-DONG (ER 0022) 23 Jan 51.
PW was engaged in a one-hour battle against UN troops at TANYANG Jan 51.
While the PW unit was resting in a village approx ½ Km N of CHISO-DONG since 23 Jan 51, PW deserted from the 8th Co 26 Jan 51.
On 271600 I Jan 51, PW surrendered to ROK National Police approx 12 Km N of CHISO-DONG.

6. FOOD, AMMO AND OTHER SUPPLIES
Food was mostly confiscated from farmers and deserted villages.
No food and ammo supplies were received from the rear since the Division departed HWACH’ON 26 Dec 50.

7. SIGNAL:
Field telephones were used for communication above the Bn levels.
Wireless was used by the div.

8. MORALE AND BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
Morale of PW Bn was low due to the lack of training of replacements who joined the NKA in Dec 50.

9. MEDICAL:
a. No communicable diseases were observed.
b. No immunizations given.
c. Most of the troops were suffering from frozen feet and frost bite.

10. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
a. PW surrendered voluntarily because he felt it was better to surrender than going back home alone.
b. Did you see any UN leaflets or hear UN loudspeaker broadcasts?
a. Yes, PW observed UN leaflets.
c. Can you describe what they said?
a. It asked NKA troops to surrender voluntarily so that they could receive good treatment like other NK prisoners.
d. What was your reaction to them?
a. PW could not believe that it was telling the truth at first.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcasts? What did they say or do?
a. After reading leaflets, the troops were talking about desertion; however, they never said a thing about a leaflet when any officers were around.
