2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and frank. However, his information was very limited. The information seems reliable.

2nd Plat: 2 x Rifle Squads (1st, 2nd).

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
While at YANGGU (DT 1117) 20 Dec 50 PW heard from the Co CO that the 10th Division was to take ANDONG (DR 7646). After securing it the II Corps was to arrive.
At CHISO DONG (ER 0022) 24 Jan 51 PW heard from this plat ldr that the 3rd Bn CP was located at CHISO DONG. The 10th Div Hq and the 25th, 27th Regt Hq were located at ANDOK MYON (DR 0020).
PW deserted while the 7th Co was heading toward POHYON SAN (DR 0995). He heard that they were to march 24 km SE from CHISO DONG.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted into the 2nd Sqd, 3rd Plat, 7th Co, 3rd Bn, 25th Regt, 10th Div 14 Dec 50 at YANGGU (DT 1117).
Received no training.
PW was not issued a uniform up till time of capture. PW was issued a rifle and 60 rds of ammo at HWACHON (CT 8718) 15 Dec 50.
Approx a third of the personnel in the 10th Div were composed of NKA regulars while two-thirds were recruits who were forced into the Army from YANGGU, KUMHWA (CT 6539), HWACHON and INJE (DT 2811).
While traveling from YANGGU to CHISO DONG, the fol places were passed:

PW and a fellow soldier deserted his unit 26 Jan 51 and surrendered to the CHISO DONG Village Police.

6. FOOD, AMMO AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
Weapon and 60 rds of ammo were last received at HWACHON 15 Dec 50. He also received 3 days ration there. When the food was exhausted, the supply plat acquired food from whatever village they entered.

8. MORALE AND BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
The morale in the company was low because two-thirds of the personnel was recruits who were forced into the Army.

9. MEDICAL:
PW knew of only one case of illness in his company; type of disease unk. The patient drank much water and had diarrhea.
About 60% of the personnel in his unit had frost bitten feet. There was no treatment. Officers advised the men with frost bitten feet to walk and keep up with the troops or die for the lack of stamina.
PW had not received any immunization shots since coming into the army.

10. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
PW voluntarily surrendered to the police because he was disgusted with the Army.
b. Did you see any UN leaflets or hear UN loudspeaker broadcasts?
PW saw UN leaflets at CHISO DONG on 25 Jan 51.
c. Can you describe what they said?
Leaflets stated: "If you surrender to the UN troops you will be treated well and not killed. Those who want to choose democracy, come to the side of S KOREA."
d. What was your reaction to them?
After reading the leaflet, PW wanted to surrender to the S Koreans as soon as possible.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcasts? What did they say or do?
Many felt the same way as the PW did.
