2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was suffering from frozen feet and fatigue. Information limited but seems reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
II Corps: 15th Div, 10th Div, 9th Div and several other div.
10th Div: 25th, 27th, 29th Rifle Regt, Arty Regt (Code no: 753 Unit), 47mm AT Indep Bn, 120mm Indep Mort Bn, Engr Bn, Med Unit and other units.
Arty Regt (Code No: 753 Unit): 3 Bn, Composite Sig-Observation-Fire Control Btry, Supply Plat, Med Unit.
1st Bn: 3 Btry, Composite Observation-Sig-Fire Control Btry.
2nd Btry: Composite Observation-Sig-Fire Control Plat, 1st and 2nd Gun Plat.
1st Gun Plat: 2 sqd of 9 men each.

30% of casualties in PW Regt caused by air attacks.
Remarks: There have been cases of typhus fever in PW unit since Jan 51.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
29th Rifle Regt and Arty Regt of 10th NK Div o/a 29 Jan 51 occupied village of TUMARI.
PW told by Co CO that his unit was to move further south. Most of the troops of both Regt using farm houses at TUMARI as temporary billets.
O/A 29 Jan 51 village bombed and strafed by US aircraft.
PW believes that during the attack 29th Regt and Arty Regt suffered 20% casualties.
Mission of 10th Div is to infiltrate UN positions and wage guerrilla warfare, blasting bridges and railroads, and disrupting supply and communications lines.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted 21 Mar 50 at HAMJU GUN, and assigned 10th Div, Arty Regt.
From 21 Mar 50 until outbreak of war, PW received arty training at P'YONGYANG.
3 Jul 50 PW Regt travelled by truck to KANGDONG GUN, SANDONG MYON.
O/A 27 Jul 50 Div Arty departed for front (KORYON DQ3354) by way of SEOUL and TAEJON.
From 13 Aug 50 until the middle of Sep 50 PW Regt was in combat vic KORYON.
In Sep 50 PW Regt received orders to retreat to NORTH KOREA on their own.
Prior to retreating, all field pieces in PW Regt were buried in the mountains in the northern sector of KORYON.
From vic KORYON PW Regt marched through the TAEBAEK and SOBAEK Mountain Ranges and arrived SOHUNG-NI (DT3125) Nov 50.
From SOHUNG-NI PW Regt marched to HWACHON (CT9618), where they received orders to infiltrate UN positions.
The route taken south by PW Regt was over SOBAEK and TAEBAEK Mountain Range.
During the middle part of Jan 51 PW unit arrived vic TANYANG (DR3989).
From vic TANYANG unit marched by night through unk mountain range to TUMARI (south of ANDONG) arriving o/a 29 Jan 51.
At TUMARI Arty Regt and 29th Regt used farm houses as temporary quarters. On the same date village bombed and strafed by US aircraft.
During attack PW was on mountain top 4 km east of village, guarding pass leading into village.
PW captured by combined US and ROK patrols.
An hour after the PW was captured US forces surrounded TUMARI, to wipe out those who survived the air attack.

6. PERSONALITIES:
CHANG Ki Yol (張基烈), Lt Col, Regt CO, 10th Div, Arty Regt.
CHO Song Ik (趙成翼), 2nd Lt, Plat Ldr, Arty Regt, 1st Bn, 2nd Btry, 1st Plat.

7. FOOD, AMMO AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
Food confiscated from farm houses along route of march.
PW Regt has not received fresh supplies of ammo since retreating from SOUTH KOREA Sep 50. Ammo supply adequate but not plentiful.

8. SIGNAL:
There was no signal equipment in the PW Regt.
Communication usually by runners.

9. MORALE AND BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
Morale and battle effectiveness in PW Regt very low for fol reasons:
a. Air attacks.
b. Lack of food, clothing and proper equipment.
c. Fatigue.
d. Troops able to continue fighting only because they are constantly reminded that desertion means death.

10. MEDICAL:
a. Typhus and pneumonia in unit. Between 20 to 30% of the troops have typhus.
b. No immunizations given.
c. Most of the frozen feet cases are not so bad as to hamper walking.

11. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
