2. ASSESSMENT:
Cooperative; PW suffered from gunshot wounds of his right arm and lower part of the right side of his chest. He had considerable pain. PW was uneducated and had served less than three months in the army. PW memory was good, however, and although information is somewhat limited, it appears to be reliable.

The 334th Regt lost approximately half of its personnel between 17 Nov 50 and 27 Jan 51 as a result of UN air strikes and of combat against UN ground forces.

4. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY
PW inducted into a replacement pool for the 38th Army 7 Nov 50 at CHANGCHUN (長春), MANCHURIA with 150 others. PW received no training.
PW departed from CHANGCHUN 10 Nov 50, by train with 150 other recruits, arriving at ANTUNG 12 Nov 50. The train did not stop at ANTUNG, however, and proceeded on to SUNCH’ON (YD5366), arriving at 132300 Nov 50. There the 150 men were assigned to various units of the 334th Regt. PW was assigned to the 8th Sqd, 3rd Plat, 6th Co, 2nd Bn of the 334th Regt.
PW departed from SUNCH’ON 17 Nov 50, marched (at night only) with the entire 112th Div arriving at TOKCH’ON (BV6903) 25 Nov 50. There the 112th Div attacked UN inf forces and PW picked up a rifle plus 50 rd of ammo from a dead CCF soldier (prior to that PW had no weapon).
PW departed from TOKCH’ON o/a 27 Nov 50, marched (at night only) over automobile roads with the 112th Div arriving at PUKCH’ANG-NI (BU7184) 29 Nov 50.
PW departed from PUKCH’ANG-NI o/a 5 Dec 50, marched (at night only) over mountain trails with the 112th Div arriving at SONGCH’ON (BU6048) 17 Dec 50.
PW departed from SONGCH’ON on 18 Dec 50, marched 18 Dec 50, marched (at night only) with the 112th Div, and arrived at KOKSAN (BT9795) 28 Dec 50.
PW departed from KOKSAN 28 Dec 50, marched (at night only) with the 112th Div and arrived at P’OCH’ON (CS4394) 2 Jan 51.
PW departed from P’OCH’ON o/a 2 Jan 51 with the 112th Div, marched (at night only) over mountain trails, and arrived at CHAJANG-NI (CS3992) 3 Jan 51.
PW departed from CHAJANG-NI o/a 4 Jan 51, marched (at night only) over mountain trails with the 112th Div and arrived at YONCH’ON (CT3116) 6 Jan 51. The division marched northward to YONCH’ON to get away from constant aircraft attacks being made in the CHAJANG-NI area.
PW departed from YONCH’ON 16 Jan 51, marched (at night only) over automobile roads, and arrived at UIJONGBU (CS2878) o/a 18 Jan 51.
PW departed from UIJONGBU 18 Jan 51, marched (at night only) with the 112th Div over mountain trails and arrived at P’ANGYO-RI 22 Jan 51. There the 112th Div was attacked by UN troops 25 Jan 51. 27 Jan 51, PW was wounded and captured by advancing UN troops.

5. REPLACEMENTS:
The 334th Regt received approximately 150 replacements on 13 Nov 50, while the entire 112th Div was at SUNCH’ON. These replacements came from CHANGCHUN, MANCHURIA.

6. FOOD, AMMO AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
112th Div ate twice daily. Food was confiscated from Korean farmers.
As far as PW knows, the 112th Div has received no weapons and ammunition supplies since he joined the div 13 Nov 50.
PW received a cotton-padded winter uniform at CHANGCHUN when he joined the CCF 7 Nov 50.

7. SIGNAL:
The 6th Co, 2nd Bn, 334th Regt, had 1 field telephone. No other info.

8. MORALE AND BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
334th Regt soldiers have fairly low morale because they are constantly harassed by UN aircraft. Battle efficiency, PW believes, is low but he is uncertain because he is unfamiliar about how a unit should fight.

9. MEDICAL:
a. Most of the 112th Division’s personnel have colds and coughs, but PW knows of no other illness.
b. Since PW joined the 112th Div on 13 Nov 50, no one has received immunization of any type.
c. Approximately 2% of the 334th Regt troops are suffering from frostbite. A salve is used as treatment.

10. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
a. PW was wounded and captured by advancing UN forces. He did not surrender voluntarily.
b. Did you see any UN leaflets or hear UN loudspeaker broadcasts?
a. PW frequently saw UN leaflets dropped but did not know what they meant as he is illiterate. He heard broadcasts o/a 22 Jan 51.
c. Can you describe what they said?
a. Broadcasts instructed CCF personnel to surrender quickly and not to have fear, for treatment of PW would be good.
d. What was your reaction to them?
a. PW believed the broadcasts but was afraid of punishment from his superiors if he attempted to surrender.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcasts? What did they say or do?
a. PW platoon leader instructed his men not to pay attention to or talk about leaflets and broadcasts, so no one discussed them.

11. TACTICS AND TECHNIQUES:
a. Marches:
Main roads are sometimes used but mountain trails are used more frequently. The 112th Div marches in a column but no definite formation is used although the men usually stick with their own plat.
334th Regt personnel usually sleep during daylight and hillsides are generally selected as bivouac sites. Each squad puts out its own security of one guard.

b. AT Teams:
Each regiment in the 112th Div has 2 bangalore torpedo teams of four men each.
