FIELD REPORT (24 Div-LDI-0177) 4 February 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW in good physical condition at time of interrogation. Of average intelligence. Although cooperative PW was not able to offer much information due to short period of time spend with his unit. Information obtained is considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation on MANCHURIA.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
17 Sep 50 PW conscripted into 32nd NK Div at SUWON. 32nd Div withdrew and headed for MANCHURIA. O/a 15 Oct crossed YALU River at MAPPOJIN. PW heard that 3 other NK Divisions had also crossed the border into MANCHURIA. 32nd Div arrived at WHAJON, KILIM-SONG approx 360 km north of the Korean border via rail. PW broke left collar bone while digging foxholes and was hospitalized for a month, thereby not receiving any of the field training received by his unit. Every soldier received an hour of Communist indoctrination each day. 32nd Div was understrength (approx 4,800). 20 Dec 50 PW and 153 other patients sent to Peoples Association Labor Section at KANGGYE, KOREA. At time of departure the 32nd Div was still at WHAJON. PW heard that all NK units were to leave MANCHURIA by Feb 51. 30 Dec 50 PW and other patients arrived KANGGYE where they received safe conduct pass and were told to go home. PW left KANGGYE and proceeded south. Numerous NK and CCF troops observed at various places but not in large numbers. Last enemy seen was o/a 25 Jan at KYONGAN-NI CS 2642 (10 CCF troops). PW was stopped at various places but was allowed to pass after showing his safe conduct pass. Arrived YOJU (home) 1 Feb 51 and was picked up by 5th RCT 4 Feb 51.

b. PW Unit:
32nd Div composed of 3 Regt.
32nd Div: 4,800 strong as of Dec 50.
2nd Regt: 1,600 strong as of Dec 50.
Hv Mort Co: 80 strong as of Dec 50.
2nd Plat: 26 strong as of Dec 50.

c. Weapons:
3 x 120mm mortars in Hv Mortar Co (1 to each Plat).

4. GENERAL:
Russian Advisors:
PW saw 3 Russian advisors at WHAJOH, MANCHURIA. While enroute from WHAJOH to KANGGYE observed approx 50 Russian officers in uniform. 2 or 3 at every RR station.
US PW:
Heard that some PW were in MANCHURIA.
Tank & Arty Pieces:
PW observed 1 heavy tank hidden under bridge at MUNSAN 19 Jan 51.
