Sources were captured by NKA 27th Div, 32nd Regt on 21 Dec 50 at CHI AM NI(12 km N of KAPYONG). Taken to HWACHON 21 Dec where 50 other ROK were held prisoner. They were told by NKA that these PW were now liberated. 30 ROK were forced into Medical Plat attached to 32nd Regt as litter bearers. They were formed into sqd (8 ROK personnel unarmed and 1 NKA man armed with Soviet rifle). The 32nd Regt left HWACHON on 23 Dec and moved southward, reaching WONJU o/a 13 Jan 51. Since PW were litter bearers, they followed the Regt into WONJU and helped carry 15 wounded NKA out of WONJU o/a 16 Jan 51 to HOENGSONG when the 32nd Regt was retreating north. On the way, the wounded soldier whom the PW were carrying died, but they were told by officer in charge to bring the dead to HONGCHON where the 27th Div Hq was to be located. However, PW escaped on 17 Jan 51 approx 2 1/2 km N of HOENGSONG. PW last observed (17 Jan 51) approx 1,000 NKA troops retreating north. PW stated 32nd Regt Hq was retreating toward H0NGCHON in front of Medics Plat. PW heard that 27th Div had 32nd Regt and 7th Regt (strength u/k).
All troops were armed with M-l rifles, carbines, Soviet rifles, PPSH SMG with 100 rd ea. Heard that each Bn had 2 mortars (no ammo observed).

Frostbite cases were few and did not observe or hear of any contagious diseases among troops.
Morale of the troops was high for the CCF troops were supporting them.
