FIELD REPORT (2 Div-LDI-0080) 25 January 1951

Evaluation: PW answered all questions asked, but it seemed he was holding back on some questions. There is also some doubt of PW rank. He was wearing officers trousers which he claimed were given to him by Plat Ldr at P'YONGYANG. Information obtained seems fairly reliable.
Recommended for further interrogation.
a. Chronology:
24 Jan 51 the 8th Co (strength 46 men) was sent out from 3rd Bn Hq to patrol and scout enemy disposition along HOENGSONG-WONJU road. They were on a hill (DS0945) when enemy patrol led by 2 tanks surrounded them. 8th Co scattered and was able to escape. PW was caught off guard and captured.
The 3rd Bn Hq (with 7 & 9 Co) was located vic (DS1545), 4 Km SE of HOENGSONG and 1st and 2nd Bn located 2 Km S of 3rd Bn and Regt Hq was situated in a small village consisting of 10 houses 1 Km NW of 3rd Bn Hq.
21 Jan 51 the 7th Div est strength 1500 men, assembled around school houses located along HOENGSONG-WONJU road, 6 Km W of present location of 3rd Bn Hq. 7th Div established its Hq here and placed its Regt on the E front approx 6 Km ahead. 1st Regt NE of Div Hq, 2nd Regt SE and 3rd Regt directly E. PW left Bn Hq on 24 Jan 51 and at that time the Div was dispersed in this manner. PW believes that 7th Div has not moved because they were resting and still had to go to their objective.
b. Personalities:
Div CO, LEE Yong Kuk (28), Col from MAMCEURIA.
Assistant CO, Lt Col (26).
c. Clothing:
All issued winter uniform at P'YONGYANG.
d. Weapons (Regt):
50% with M-1 Rifles, 50% Russian rifles with 200 rd ea, Mortars 2 in 3rd Bn, LMG 2 in 3rd Bn, HMG 2 in 3rd Bn. Each man carried 1 rd.
e. Physical Condition:
Fairly good.
f. Food:
Insufficient.
e. Morale:
Very low - Troops have no AA guns to oppose air attack.
