FIELD REPORT (2 DIV- LDI - 0077) 25 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: KIM, Tong Ok (19) Pvt
DUTY: Wireman
UNIT: 14th Div (Sic) Arty Regt, Sig Plat
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 23 Jan 51 YONGWOL (DS5415)

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation: PW surrendered because he was maltreated. He appeared very cooperative. Information seems fairly reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
PW conscripted and assigned to Sig Plat of the Arty Regt, 14th Div (Sic) o/a 23 Dec 50 at HWACHON. At this time Div Hq (estimated strength 1,000) and the Arty Regt (estimated strength 300) were both in HWACHON.
Half of troops of Arty Regt armed with Russian rifles (50 rd of ammo ea), carbines, and SMG. This Arty Regt had 5x120mm mortars, 11x81 & 82mm mortars, 3HMG and 4 LMG.
o/a 26 Dec 50 14th Div (25th, 27th, 29th and Arty Regt-total estimated strength 7,000) started S. Forward elements of the 2nd Div following immediately behind the 14th Div. PW heard from an officer that the 7th and 9th Divs were also to follow them. They moved only at night by way of Mt trails and reached PAPORI (approx 16 km N of YONGWOL) o/a 9 Jan 51. PW dropped out at PAPORI because of a frost bitten foot and met several other troops from the 2nd Div in the same condition. Prior to dropping out, he heard from his Plat Ldr that the 14th Div was going toward the NAKTONG area and observed elements of both the 14th and 2nd Div continuing S.

4. GENERAL INFORMATION:
Physical condition - A large percentage of the troops are suffering from frost bite. Out of the Comm Plat of 26 men, 4 dropped out between HWACHON and PAPORI.
Clothing: 10% in the winter uniform, 70% wearing summer uniforms over civilian clothes and 20% in mixed clothing.
Morale: Very low
Food: All carry two days emergency supply of rice.
REMARKS:
PW was with his unit for a period of only one month. He distinctly said the Regt were the 25th, 27th, and 29th Regt which are of the 10th Div.
Also the chronology of this unit is that of the 10th Div.
