1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: HU, Shu Shen (胡樹森) (CCF)

2. ASSESSMENT:
During interrogation, PW was hungry and sleepy. He lacked military information since he had not received any formal military training.
PW was confused in place names and dates.
Information seems unreliable.

150th Div: 448th, 449th, and 450th Inf Regt.
448th Regt: 3 Rifle Battalions.
1st Battalion: 3 Rifle Companies.

 PW did not know the present strength because his squad was in the rear of the Company.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
PW did not know the unit's mission nor did he know why he is fighting in KOREA.
Battalion, Regiment, Division and Army CP's were unknown.
PW claims that, since they travelled only during the nights, he did not see other units.
Eight soldiers were captured by UN forces while they were sleeping on 26 Jan 51 at Hill 156.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted in Aug 48 into the CNA, LO KWANG WEN (羅広文) unit at CHUNG CHING (重慶).
Received no training.
In Jan 50 600 CNA soldiers were captured by the CCF 50th Army in the vicinity of CHUNG CHING.
Between Jan 50 to Dec 50, these PW received communist Indoctrination and preformed odd labor jobs at FUBEI TIEN WEN (天明).
On 9 Oct 50 at HUPEI, CHING MUN, PW was placed into the Mortar Squad, 1st Company, 1st Battalion, 448th Regt, 150th Division, 50th Army.
Received no training.
Troops cultivated land and raised their own food here.
The 150th Division departed CHING MUN in Oct 50 and arrived at HONAN CHUMAOTIEN (河南住馬店) in Oct 50. They immediately alighted a closed-car train.
After an unknown number of days, they arrived at PAEKMA, KOREA (白馬) in Nov 50.
1st Battalion left PAEKMA in Nov 50 and arrived at the vicinity of capture after traveling at nights through main and secondary roads, on 23 Jan 51.
PW and 7 others were captured on 26 Jan 51 by the TURKISH Brigade.

7. FOOD, AMMO, AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
Ammo was last received at CHING MUN in Oct 50,
Food was obtained from villages.
PW received one winter uniform at CHING MUN.

8. SIGNAL:
Company - Battalion: Messengers.

9. MORALE AND BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
The morale in PW Company was low because they were hungry; they did not want to die, and they were tired from the long marches.

10. MEDICAL:
a. Some troops in PW Company had Malaria, but he did not know the number.
b. No immunizations were received by troops in his Company.
c. PW believed 20 to 30 soldiers had frostbitten feet in his Company. He saw Medics apply some unknown liquid and powder to the frostbitten feet. He claimed that this medicine would cure frostbitten feet in 4 to 7 days.

11. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
a. PW was captured while sleeping; however, even if he were not asleep, he would have voluntarily surrendered.
b. Did you see any UN leaflets or hear UN loudspeaker broadcasts?
a. PW saw UN leaflets at an unknown place, Jan 51, but he did not hear any UN loudspeakers.
c. Can you describe what they said?
a. The leaflet stated: "Give up this fruitless fight. We will not kill you but will clothe and feed you. So, surrender yourself as soon as possible."
d. What was your reaction to them?
a. After reading the leaflets, he believed what it said and wanted to surrender.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcasts? What did they say or do?
a. PW did not know how the others felt upon reading the leaflets. However, when he saw them hiding without firing, when being attacked by UN forces, he believed that they felt the same was as he did.

12. TACTICS AND TECHNIQUES:
a. Marches:
Unit usually marched in single file and at times double column. They started from sunset and stopped at daybreak.
There was no set time for rest periods or any security during marches or halts.
Unit travelled on main and secondary roads, usually avoiding large cities.

b. Bivouacs:
Usually, villages with houses were selected for bivouac areas. They slept in houses without any guards. During air attacks, troops remained in the houses. If they were out, they would squat and remain motionless.

c. Attack:
PW did not know of attack tactics because he had never been in battle.

d. Defensive:
PW stated that he was captured at his mortar position but he did not know where the rifle platoons were or how the defense was planned.
He only followed his squad leader.
