1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

PW was very cooperative.
Although info is limited seems reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF:
4th Field Army: 50th, 38th, 39th, 50th, 42th Armies and possibly several other armies.
50th Army: 148th, 149th, 150th Divisions and attached units.
150th Div: 448th(code name: 1ST CO), 449th(code name: 2ND CO), 445th Regt(code name: 3RD CO), and attached units.
450th Regt: 3 Bn, Recon Plat, Sig Plat, Telephone Plat and attached units. Sig Plat handles mail only.
3rd Bn: 7th, 8th, 9th Rifles Co and HMG Co.
7th Co: 3 Plat.
1st Plat: 3 Sqd.
2nd Sqd: 12 troops (original); 8 troops (present)

The weapons in the PW Co were in fair but unusable condition.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES:
3rd Bn 450th Regt o/a 27 Jan 51, was located in an unk mountain approx 2 km N of the YANGJU NI (CS 5156) Railroad Station. The mountain in which the Bn was located, is the highest mountain N of YANGJU NI.
3rd Bn has been at this mountain since 19 Jan 51.
The Bn occupied caves and defensive positions on the slope of the mountain facing S toward YANGJU NI.
8th and 9th Rifle Co were dug in side by side. The Heavy Weapons Co was located in the rear between the 8th and 9th Co.
Bn OP was located on the highest peak, and Bn CP at the base of the mountain in the northern sector.
Bn mortar position was located on the northern slope, midway between the CP and OP.
The PW Co (7th Co) was dug in the hill adjacent to the Bn area (S).
26 Jan 51, the hill held by the 7th Co, was attacked by US forces. After engaging the US forces for about 2 hours, the PW Co withdrew to the mountain held by the 3rd Bn.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted into the CCF 1 May 49, at CHILIN SHENG(吉林省) and assigned to 50th Army, 150th Div, 450th Regt. May 49, to June 49, PW was idle, waiting for orders. June 49, 50th Army was transferred to HONAN SHENG(河南省). June 49 to 26 Aug 49, PW underwent basic infantry training.
26 Aug 50, 50th Army moved to SSUCHUAN SHENG(四天省) to attack CNA Forces. By Dec 49, 50th Army successfully defeated the CNA, then marched to HUPEI SHENG(湖北省). At HUPEI SHENG 50th Army worked on a state-controlled farm until about Feb 50. Feb 50, PW unit marched to HONAN SHENG(河南省). At HONAN SHENG, 450th Regt was idle for about a month.
Early part of Sep 50, PW Regt departed for ANTUNG by rail and arrived o/a 25 Sep 50.
Between 25 Sep 50 and 25 Nov 50, PW unit received political indoctrination.
O/a 27 Nov 50, 450th Regt-crossed the YALU into SINUIJU (KE1839). PW unit marched to the vic North of CHOUSAN, where the PW Regt received additional winter clothing prior to continuing their march through the westcoast of North KOREA.
Upon crossing the 38th parallel PW Regt marched South to SEOUL. At SEOUL, Regt was broken up into Bn (each operating independently). PW Bn marched to YANGJU RI using mountain trails.
26 Jan 51, PW Co was attacked by US Forces and he was taken PW on the same date.

7. FOOD, AMMO AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
PW Co, since 24 Jan 51, had exhausted its food supply. When captured, the PW had not had a single meal in 3 days.
8th, 9th Rifle Co and Heavy Weapons Co of the PW Bn ran out food since entrenching themselves in the mountain 2 km North of YANGJU NI. (CS5156).
Ammo - See T/O & E.
PW Bn had not received ammo resupply.

8. SIGNAL:
A telephone was utilized in the PW Co for commuication between Co and Bn. Runners, carrying written or verbal messages, were employed between Co.
PW Co did not have bugles, drums or whistles.

9. MORALE, AND COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS:
Morale and combat effectiveness in the PW Bn was very low because of the following:
a. Lack of food and water.
b. Fatigue
c. Fear of air attack.
d. Lack of clothing.

10. MEDICAL:
There was no major diseases in the PW Bn except for pneumonia. (5 out 100 troops). Only a few cases of pneumonia were evacuated to the rear.

11. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:

12. TACTICS AND TECHNIQUES:
Marches
From SINUIJU(XE1839) to SEOUL the PW Regt utilized secondary roads as their route of march. (Marched at night only). From SEOUL to the place of capture, mountain trails were utilized.
While marching between SINUIJU and SEOUL, the PW Bn slept in the hills during the day.
