2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and talked freely.
Information seems fairly reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
Ⅱ N Korean Corps: 2nd, 9th and three other Div.
9th Rifle Division: 3 Regiments, Engr Co, Security Plat, Med Plat, Recon Co, Arty Bn and other unk units.
2nd Rifle Regiment: 3 Rifle Bn (4th, 5th and 6th) Recon (code: Nwei-Kwang), Security Plat, Engr Plat, Supply Plat and other unk units.
Recon Platoon: 3 Sqd.
One Rifle Battalion: 3 Co, Engr Plat, Security Plat, Recon Sqd, Supply Sqd.
One Rifle Company: 3 Plat.
One Rifle Platoon: 3 Sqd.

Personnel losses were caused from engagements and desertions(number unknown) during latter part of Dec 50.
36x M1 rifles replaced with present equipment in Dec 50, because they were light and more ammo was available. They were given to one of the Rifle Regt 9th Div. Present equipment in usable condition.

4. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES:
After arriving. with the 2nd Regt at an unk village approx 12 Km So of YONGWOL 220100 ⅠJan 51, PW Recon Plat left on a recon mission approx 8 Km W during day light. PW did not participate in this mission because of swollen legs.
After the Recon Plat return, 2nd Regt left the village W at 221900 Ⅰ Jan 51.
2nd Regt had not been engaged in any battle against the UN Forces while in the village. PW did not know why 2nd Regt proceeded west.
PW did not see any adjacent or other units or artillery positions as of 22 Jan 51.
PW did not know of any objectives and missions of the 2nd Regt.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
While attending middle school, PW was conscripted with 20 other students on 5 Sep 50 at PYONGYANG-SHI (YD3920).
Without receiving any training, PW was assigned to the Coast Guard Hq, Recon Plat at PYONGYANG the same day.
6 Sep 50, PW with the 15th Bn, 105th Regt, Coast Guard Headquarters, left PYONGYANG by train. Approx 1,500 troops departed with the 15th Battalion.
Enroute to MOKPO (DC4535) from PYONGYANG, the following places were passed:

At MOKPO, 15th Bn remained guarding the coastal line approx 2 weeks.
15th Bn was disorganized at MOKPO, PW and Racon Plat retreated N o/a ⅠNov 50.
Recon Plat travelled through the TAEBAEK SAN, unk name places, CHORWON (CT 4335) and arrived at KUMHWA (CT 6538) the latter part of Dec 50.
At KUMHWA, PW Recon Plat joined the 2nd Regt.
It took approx 3 days to reorganize the 2nd Regt, 9th Div, Ⅱ Corps at KUMWHA.
2nd Regt left KUMWHA and proceeded S latter part of Dec 50.
Enroute to a village approx 12 Km S of YONGWOL over the following route:

After arriving at the village 220500 Ⅰ Jan 51, 2nd Regt remained until 221900 ⅠJan 51.
PW and another soldier was left behind because of illness.
While hiding in a farmer’s home, PW and his comrade were captured by UN troops at 231000 Ⅰ Jan 51.

6. FOOD, AMMO AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
Food was inadequate, therefore, the troops confiscated their food from farmers and deserted villages while advancing S.
He received one issue of 72 rd of SMG (PPsh) ammo when the unit left KUMHWA (CT 6538) and another issue of 72 rd of the same ammo when they crossed the 38th parallel d/u Jan 51. (Source and supply not known to PW).

7. SIGNAL:
Runners were used for communication between PW Recon Plat and Regt.

8. MORALE AND BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
The present morale of PW unit and other infantrymen of the 2nd Regt was low due to long forced marches at night.
A great number of troops were suffering from frozen feet.

9. UN PW:
Observed approx 10ROKA PW at YONGWOL on 21 Jan 51. These PW travelled with 2nd Regt and were seen last at a village (approx 12 Km S of YONGWOL (DS5415), when PW was separated from his unit as of 22 1900 Ⅰ Jan 51.
PW believed the enemy PW were receiving better treatment then his own troops.

10. MEDICAL:
There were about ten men besides the PW in the 2nd Regt who were suffering from frozen feet.
PW had never been treated for his frozen feet due to the lack of medicine.
There were a great number of troops suffering from frost bite throughout the 2nd Regiment.

11. CCF:
PW was approx 200 CCF troops at an unk village on the 38th parallel d/u Jan 51.

12. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily?
PW did not surrender voluntarily but was captured.
b. Did you see any UN leaflets or hear UN loudspeaker broadcasts?
Yes, PW saw UN Leaflets.
c. Can you describe what they said?
They said, “All NKA PW are receiving good treatment, so, why do you fight? Give yourself up and join the rest of the NKA PW.”
d. What was your reaction to them?
PW was very doubtful about the UN leaflets.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcasts?
No, PW did not hear other soldiers discuss leaflets. They always kept quiet among themselves about the leaflets.
