1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was suffering from a 15 day-old head round. He was cooperative but could not talk much as the wound was still bothering him. He was also unfamiliar with the military service.
Information seems unreliable.

Ⅱ Corps: 8th, 9th, 10th and the 31st Infantry Divisions.
31st Division: 2nd, 3rd, 4th Regt and Arty Regiment.
2nd Regiment: 3 Rifle Bn, Arty Bn, and HMG Company.
Each Rifle Bn: 3 Rifle Co.
Each Rifle Co: 3 Rifle Plat.
Each Rifle Plat: 4 Rifle Sqd and HMG Sqd.

31st Division strength was formerly 700 to 800 men (early part of Jan 51).
Approximately 200 or 300 casualties were suffered since then, mostly by aircraft.
Approximately 2 mortars were observed in the Arty Regt.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES:
The 2nd Regiment Headquarters was located approx 12 km South of TAECHON (DS3621) 13 Jan 51.
The Regiment was engaged in battle for the first time on 10 Jan 51 with ROK unit for 1 day.
2nd Regiment was believed to have withdrawn to another position after this battle.
PW was wounded here and no further information was available, as of 13 Jan 51.
Objectives and mission of the 31st Division were unknown.

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted Sep 50 at CHOLLA PUKTO, KUMJE (CQ1061).
Assigned to the 106th Ind Regt.
Received no training.
Remained in that area until PW unit started to retreat northward (date unknown).
PW and approximately 1 Company of soldiers passed over the SOBAEK and TAEBAEK Mountains before arriving at a place believed to be SHIBIL RI at an unknown date (thought to be in the HWACHON (CT8718) area).
The entire Company was reassigned to the 31st Division, which was located there.
31st Division departed from SHIBIL RI early Jan 51.
Arrived at TAECHON on 10 Jan 51.
PW unit was engaged with a ROK unit in a day long battle, before withdrawing to an unknown location.

6. FOOD, AMMO AND OTHER SUPPLIES:
A small supply of food was carried by each soldier. Food was frequently procured from towns of villages in sufficient amounts.
As of 10 Jan 51, food supply had dwindled and the main diet usually consisted of millet.
No ammo was received after the initial issue before departing SHIBIL RI.
No source of supply known.

7. MORALE AND BATTLE EFFECTIVENESS:
Morale was low due to insufficient clothing and equipment, and frequent aerial attacks.
A majority of the troops were considered to be physically unfit for combat.

8. MEDICAL:
An estimated 60% of the troops suffered from frostbite and frozen feet.
No medical treatment observed.

9. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
