2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and intelligent. Reliability - Fair.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
17 Jun 50: Inducted into the NK Army at NANAM (羅南). Received one month training before induction at the PUKCH’ONG (北靑) training center. Assigned to the 1st Sqd, 2nd Plat, 1st Co, 1st Bn, NANAM Ind Regt as an infantryman.
3 Jul 50: 1,000 men arrived SEOUL and PW was assigned to the 3rd Sqd, 1st Plat, 6th Co, 3rd Bn, 19th Regt, 13th Div.
7 Jul 50: 13th Div left SEOUL and advanced ICH’ON (利川), WONJU (原州), CHECH’ON (花川), CHUNGJU (忠州), CH’ONGJU (■州), SANGJU (尙州), SONSAN (■山) and TABU-RI (多富里).
14 Aug 50: 19th Regt was a rear echelon unit, and when they advanced into TABU-RI (多富里) at night, they were trapped by machine gun and artillery fire. PW was wounded and evacuated by truck to a hospital located in SANGJU (尙州). Treated for a day, and then was evacuated to a hospital in WONJU (原州) where he stayed for about a week.
2 Sep 50: Arrived SEOUL by train and treated at the 15th Rear Hospital for about two weeks.
18 Sep 50: Released from hospital and put in a replacement depot for reassignment.
20 Sep 50: Assigned to the 2nd Plat, 2nd Co, 3rd Bn, 3rd Regt, 31st Div as an assistant platoon leader (Sr Sgt) in SEOUL.
23 Oct 50: PW and 50 others arrived WISONG (■松) after the 31st Div broke up into small groups while retreating from SEOUL. The 31st Div met in the vicinity of WISONG and reorganized. PW was assigned to the 9th Co, 3rd Bn, 3rd Regt, 31st Div.
28 Dec 50: 31st Div (2,500 men) moved to HWACH’ON (華川) after passing through CHUNCH’ON (春川), YONGWON (寧遠), SINUP (新邑), ICH’ON (伊川) and KUMHWA (金化). PW reassigned to the Mortar Bn.
13 Jan 51: 31st Div arrived MULYA-MYON (■野面) after passing YANGGU (楊口), HONGCH’ON (洪川), and HOENGSONG (橫城). PW was promoted to platoon leader (Jr Lt) at HONGCH’ON (洪川) and reassigned to the Recon Co directly attached to Div.
15 Jan 51: When PW led a five man patrol into NESONG (■城), they heard rifle shots and PW’s men ran away and PW alone was captured by the ROK soldiers.

d. Disposition:
When last observed (13 Jan 51), the Div Hq was in NAMDAE-RI (南大里) with the 1st Regt 16 km south of Div Hq and 2nd and 3rd Regiments located 8 km north of Div Hq.
PW later heard that the Div retreated to a point 32 km north of NAMDAE-RI (南大里).

e. Intentions:
The 31st Div was trying to disrupt the supply and communication system of the UN Forces.

f. Supply:
Each man carried three days ration. Riflemen carried about 100 rounds. Sub-machine gunners carried from 140 - 210 rounds.

g. Other Units:
30 Dec 50 31st Div relieved the 27th Div at HWACH’ON (華川).
26 Dec 50 Heard that the 6th Div was in HWACH’ON (華川).

h. Weapons Feared Most:
(1) Mortar fire
(2) Napalm bombs
(3) Strafing
i. AA Guns:
2 Oct 50 PW states that he saw about then 37mm AA gun M1939 at KANGGYE (江界) being pulled by trucks. Not sure of caliber of gun as they were covered.
