1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and gave info freely.
Info seemed fairly reliable but was limited due to only a short period of military service.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
II Corps: PW only knew of the 27th Div.
27th Div: 14th, 37th and 32nd Rifle Regt, Guard Co, Sig Co, Recon Co, Eng Co, Supply Co, Trans Co, and Med Co.
14th Regt: 3 Rifle Bn’s, Sig Plat, Recon Plat, Eng Plat, Supply Plat, Trans Plat and Med Plat.
3rd Bn: 3 Rifle Co’s, Recon Sqd, and Med Sqd.
2nd Co: 3 Rifle Plat’s.
2nd Plat: 3 Rifle Sqd’s (Each sqd consisted of 13 men).

Personnel losses were chiefly from combat casualties.
Many troops were also lost in movement (physically unfit and desertions).

4. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
PW conscripted 5 Nov 50 at SINUIJU.
5 Nov 50 PW with approx 300 conscripts departed from SINUIJU (EX1839), arrived at YONGDOK (BU9744), traveling five days through mountains.
At YONGDOK, PW and the group of 300 men were assigned to the 14th Regt, o/a 10 Nov 50.
PW received approx 20 days basic training in the vicinity of YONGDOK (BU9744).
Jan 51, 32nd and 37th Regts of 27th Div proceeded W from YONGDOK.
Simultaneously, 14tyh Regt proceeded south.

Arriving at YONGWOL (DS5415) 14th Regt advanced to POCHANG (approx 13 Km E of YONGWOL) remaining for approx 5 days.
19 Jan 51 14th Regt returned to YONGWOL.
During the advance, 3rd Bn arrived at OKTONG NI (DS6207) morning of 20 Jan 51, was attacked by UN troops and disorganized.
During the attack, PW separated from unit and captured by UN troops 201000 I Jan 51 at OKTONG.

5. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
1st and 2nd Bns with the 14th Regt Hq was last seen at POCHANG (Phonetic) approx 13 Km E of YONGWOL (DS5415) as of 200400 I Jan 51.

6. COMMUNICATION:
Field telephones used for communication above the Bn levels.

7. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food obtained locally. No food supply received from the rear after departing N KOREA.
No additional issue of ammo was received since leaving YONGDOK in Dec 50. An average of 50 rounds was received by each infantryman.

8. MORALE:
Morale of 3rd Bn was low due to lack of ammo, inadequate food and clothing.

9. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
a. PW did not surrender voluntarily; he was captured.
b. Did you see any United Nations leaflets or hear any loudspeaker broadcasts?
