2. ASSESSMENT:
Reliability: Fair

3. MILITARY HISTORY:
20 Sep 50: PW was inducted with 8 others at his home address and was sent to HUPYONG (厚平), near INJE-GUN (麟蹄郡).
o/a 8 Nov 50: After travelling there to five miles a day, PW and 8 others arr at HUPYONG, where PW was assigned to the 5th Div (NKA) for basic training.
15 Nov 50: PW was reassigned to “CHIISAN” I Corps, HUNGPOK Unit, 1st District Unit, 1st Plat, 2nd Sqd.
16 Nov 50: Three fourths of the troops were armed and one fourth carried one “TO” of rice each; left HUPYONG for CHIISAN on foot. (The entire 1st Army Group left for CHIISAN).
9 Jan 51: The part of the 1st Army Group encountered a slight opposition from the police force of TAYANG-GUN, TAEGANG-MYON (丹陽郡■■面), but suffered no casualty.
10 Jan 51: I Corps was attacked by the UN aircrafts and TAEGANG-MYON, TAYANG-GUN, CHUNGCHON PUK-TO (忠北 丹陽郡 대강면); however, suffered no casualty.
11 Jan 51: The I Corps arr MUNGYONG (聞慶).
o/a 12 Jan 51: The I Corps, leaving 30-40 ill-stricken troops behind, headed southward. PW was one of the patients who was left behind.
20 Jan 51: PW was captured by ROK troops.

4. ORGANIZATION:
I Corps consisted of seven units: CHI-TEI (支隊), SO Unit (西), TANGJONG UNIT (당종대), HUNGBOK Unit (興福 部隊), CHONGGI Unit (정기 部隊), KUANG-IL Unit (光日 部隊), and HYONGSOK Unit (형석 部隊).
HQ was composed of approx 10 men.
Each of the above-mentioned units was consisted of two district units with the exception of the “KWAN-IL” Unit which consisted of five district units. Each district unit consisted of two plats, and each plat of three sqds with the exception of “KWAN-IL” Unit, which consisted of two sqds. Approx a fourth of the troops in the “KWAN-IL” Unit were battle-tasted men. Others were all recruits.

6. WEAPON AND EQUIPMENT:
In “HUNGPOK” Unit, there were 1x82mm mortar, 1 HMG (US), 1 LMG, and about 100 various rifles.
There were 6 rds of ammo for the mortar, 500 rds for the HMG, 200 rds for the LMG, and 50 - 150 rds for each rifle. There were only 8 hand grenades in the entire unit.

7. PERSONNEL:
HUNGBOK; 25; Korean; CO of “HUNGBOK” Unit.
In “HUNGBOK” Unit there were 3 women of which 2 were cooks and one, a nurse.

8. COMMUNICATION:
Communication by runners.

9. MISSION:
The mission of the 1st Army Group was to move into CHIISAN and infiltrate the enemy line.

10. CLOTHINGS:
Only the original members of the units seemed to have NKA uniforms. As a whole troops wore civilian clothes.

11. FOOD:
Food was obtained from the local villages; however, approx 3 days ration was always carried by designated members who carried no weapons.

12. MORALE:
Morale of the “HUNGPOK” Unit was low due to bitter weather. However, desertion was not seen.
