4. ORGANIZATION:
The “So” Unit was under the control of the I Corps (第一軍團) (Guerrilla Unit). The “So” Unit consisted of two district units; each district unit consisted of two plats; and each plat consisted of two squads. The break down of the I Corps was as shown below:
The T/O of the organization was not constant. Replacements and reenforcements were obtained from the local districts as they travelled south. These replacements were usually volunteers. Thus, the units under the I Corps had different numbers of troops attached.

5. DESIGNATION OF UNITS AND ADDRESSING OF PERSONNEL:
There were no numerical designations given units. The units’ names were either place names or commanders’ names. The HQ, which was named “CHIISAN HQ” was designated because their destination was CHIISAN.
An officer was addressed by his unit adding the word “Comrade”, as “HQ Comrade” for CO of HQ, and “Plat Comrade” for Plat Ldr. Troops were addressed by the men’s last name and adding “Comrade”, as “KIM Comrade”. Thus full names of personnel were not known.

6. WEAPONS:
“So” Unit had 1 x 60MM mortar, 2 LMGs, 4 PPSH SMGs, 2 carbines, 4 M1 Rifles, and about seventy other rifles. Everyone in these units was armed with some kind of a rifle.

7. AMMUNITION:
There were ten reds for the mortar, 400 rds to each LMG, 140 rds to a PPSH SMGs and approx 100 rds to a rifleman.

8. SUPPLIES:
During movements there was no method of resupplying weapons and ammo. What equipment they had on hand seemed to be from captured sources.

9. CHIISAN GHQ:
The “CHIISAN” HQ travelled along with the units of the I Corps.
The troops marched through the mountains and avoided every possible contact with the enemy. The final destination was CHIISAN where the HQ was said to be established.

9. UNIFORM:
Majority of the troops, who were original NKA troops, had NKA summer uniforms worn under white civilian clothes. White civilian clothes were worn to camouflage themselves in snow.
Newly joined troops wore white civilian clothes over their original clothes. These white clothes were confiscated from the local civilians.

10. STRENGTH: As of 28 Dec 50
HQ Personnel 20
I Corps 700
Area Unit 85 - 120
District Unit 50
Plat 25
Sqd 10 - 15

11. COMMUNICATION:
In “So” Unit there were three runners, which was the only means of communication.

12. MORALE:
Since the majority of the troops were volunteers, the morale was rather high. Food was sufficient and troops slept in civilian homes most of the time. This unit was seldom attacked by the UN aircrafts.

13. CASUALTIES:
Wounded were left behind since there were no medical supplies.

14. REQUIREMENTS FOR JOINING GUERRILLA FORCES:
The only requirement that existed in joining the guerrilla forces was to be an absolute NKA patriot, which usually meant a communist member in good standing. Recommendation from the party members was needed in joining the guerrillas.

For the Commanding Officer:
