2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative but not very intelligent. Reliability - Poor.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
14 Mar 49: Inducted into NK Army at HAMHUNG (咸興) and assigned to II Corps, 2nd Div, 4th Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Co, 2nd Plat, 2nd Sqd. Received combat training for 9 months.
15 Jan 50: Reassigned to II Corps, 2nd Div, Engr Bn, Cadre Co, 3rd Plat, Supply Sqd, at HAMHUNG (咸興) and received Engr training. Entire 2nd Div was stationed there.
27 Jun 50: 2nd Div (4th, 6th, 17th Regts and Arty Regt, totaling 10,500 men) moved to CH’UNCH’ON (春川) and engaged ROK units for 3 days.
26 Jul 50: 2nd Div marched to CH’ONGJU (淸州) and engaged a US unit. PW heard that 15 US soldiers were captured.
13 Aug 50: 2nd Div arrived in KUMCH’ON (金泉).
27 Aug 50: 2nd Div moved to KORYO (高麗), engaged UN Forces for about a week.
Early Sep 50: 2nd Div crossed the NAKTONG River (洛東江) on wooden boats (30 men each) and some waded across the river. Engaged UN Forces. The 4th Regt and 6th Regt advanced to CH’ANG■YON (昌寧) while the Div Hq and Engr Bn stayed on the NAKTONG River.
15 Sep 50: Div Hq and Engr Bn started retreating and waded across the NAKTONG River. 3 days later, the other Regts started retreating (Div strength about 8,500 men at this time).
20 Nov 50: 2 days after crossing the NAKTONG River, the 2nd Div reassembled and after marching through the mts arrived NAMHUNG-NI (南興里) (about 7,000 men) and the men were issued winter uniforms and some rifles and sub-machine guns. The remainder of the 15th Regt was added to the 2nd Div making the total about 8,000 men. At this time, 2nd Div consisted of 4th, 6th, 17th Regts, but no Arty Regt. Engr Bn was converted to an Engr Co (83 men).
26 Nov 50: 2nd Div departed NAMHUNG-NI (南興里) and advanced south through the mountains.
8 Jan 51: Reached vicinity of YONGWUL (寧越) and engaged a ROK unit.
16 Jan 51: 2nd Div went to CHUNGMYONG (■■) and here 30 picked men, including PW, from the Engr Co were told to destroy a bridge. After failing, the 30 men returned but could not find their unit.
21 Jan 51: The 30 men came to YECH’ON (醴泉) where they were discovered by ROK troops. In the ensuing battle 7 men were captured (including 4 wounded) and the rest were killed.

b. Organization: (as of 26 Nov 50)
Equipment:
HMG Co had no HMG’s, had only SMG’s and rifles.
Mortar Co had 4 x 82mm Mortars (Russian).
Each Bn had 7 LMG’s (Russian).

c. Personalities:
LEE, Ho (李浩) (이호), 27, Maj Gen, 2nd Div CG.
CH’OE, Su Su (崔■■) (최주■), 32, Col, 4th Regt CO.
CH’OE, Sung Ch’ol (崔承哲) (최성철), 40, Maj Gen, 2nd Div Rear Echelon CG.

d. Intentions:
2nd Div was to advance to ANDONG (安東).

e. Replacements:
Only replacement received was when 2nd Div retreated to NAMHUNG-NI (南興里) and remainder of the 15th Regt was absorbed by the Div.

f. Morale:
Morale was low due to shortage in supply and ammunition. Also due to the cold.

g. Supply:
Each man carried 2 days ration and 200 rds and the men with SMG’s carried 300 rds.

h. Other Units:
PW heard that the 31st Div was following the 2nd Div.
