ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 3130 2 February 1951
FIELD REPORT (2 Div - LDI - 0071) 19 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: PAK Su Hae (23)
RANK: Pvt
UNIT: 6th Div, 661st Regt, 3rd Bn, MG Co, 1st Plat
DATE & PLACE OF CAPTURE: 1300 hrs 18 Jan 51 PANGOK (DS1133)

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and very intelligent. Information seems fairly reliable although limited in details due to his short period of service. Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. CIRCUMSTANCE OF CAPTURE:
Left his unit at HOENGSONG (DS1048) 10 Jan and headed for CHECHON to give himself up to the UN Forces. He surrendered to 9th Inf Patrol at PANGOK-NI 18 Jan 51.

4. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
6th Div consisted of the 657th, 659th and 661st Regt. V Corps has the 43rd, 38th, 27th, 12th and 6th Div. Heard that the V Corps was in the TAEJANG-NI (DS1539) area, 9 Jan 51. PW deserted from his unit 2200 hrs 10 Jan 51. On his way south, he observed the 12th Div (5000) 13 Jan 51, the 38th Div (3000) 14 Jan 51 and the 43rd Div (2000) 15 Jan 51.
Heard from each unit that the V Corps was going back to reassemble in HONGCHONG. Heard the Bn CO say that they were not retreating but going back to rest. PW believes that the units were actually retreating to reorganize after units were heavily hit by UN air and artillery.
Strength of 3rd Bn approx 500.
Saw 1 x 120mm mortar, 4 BAR’s, 40 x SMG’s, 27-28 men in Co were carrying 4-5 82mm mortar shells. All armed with rifles.
Each Regt had 1 transreceiver to communicate with Div Hqs.

5. GENERAL INFORMATION:
All wore winter clothing and very few were effected by cold weather because they were always on the move and they stayed in houses during the day.
American soldiers were very lax in their outpost sentinel duties. They (NKA) can infiltrate into our lines at any time.
PW was told by his CO that since the supply line being as long as it is and supplies were constantly being harassed or destroyed, they were not able to bring up ammunition for their weapons so it was up to the individual soldiers to capture or pick up as many American weapons as they can. This way, knowing that the Americans have large supplies of ammunition, they can always capture these, thus solving the ammunition supply problem. The soldiers are constantly indoctrinated in taking care of their individual weapons as part of their life. They are reprimanded for even losing one round of ammunition.
