FIELD REPORT (25 Div - LDI - 0065) 15 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: CHOW Yu Myon (29)
RANK: Pvt
DUTY: Kitchen Helper
UNIT: 50th Army, 150th Div, 49th Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Co
PLACE AND DATE OF CAPTURE: UK YONGGYE (CR7592) 12 Jan 51

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and did not in the least appear to be withholding information. Info considered fairly reliable.
Not recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Organization and Strength:
50th Army composed of 148th, 149th and 150th Div. 150th Div composed of 47th, 48th and 49th Regt.
49th Regt came south from ANTUNG, Manchuria, P’YONGYANG, SEOUL, SUWON to Hill located 5 kms W of YONGGYE where the 3rd Bn separated from Regt 10 Jan 51. 49th Regt has not been engaged since entering Korea. Strength of Regts approx 2,000 men.
3rd Bn (500) was last observed 11 Jan 51 dug in hill located immediately W of YONGGYE. 49th Regt CP was located on Hill 5 kms W of YONGGYE. PW deserted and surrendered in this vicinity.

b. Weapons in 3rd Bn:
4 HMGs, 12-15 LMGs, 8 x 60mm mortars, 4 hand grenades per man. 50% armed approx 80 rds each. Other 50% of troops as ammo bearers, laborers, etc.

c. Morale:
PW claims he surrendered because of insufficient food, also was former CNA. Rumor among CCF Troops since late Dec is that the CNA has landed in South Korea.
Majority of the troops in 49th Regt were former CNA. 50th Army CG also a former CNA.
Because of heavy UN air strikes, insufficient food. There are very few men determined to fight, also because of rumor of CNA landing.

d. Food:
Rice and maize brought from Manchuria. Vegetables obtained in Korea if any. Troops are fed irregularly and in insufficient quantities.
