FIELD REPORT (521 - LDI - 0370) 16 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:
PW NAME: KIM, Chun Chol (金重喆)

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative. Reliability fair. He had no sense of direction and was unobservant in regard to places through which he passed.

3. UNIT MOVEMENT:
PW arrived at the HAN River with the entire 2nd NKA Div 9 Jan 51 and the 251st Engr Bn crossed the river with the 6th Regt the following day and proceeded first east and then south, the Engr unit travelling between the 2nd and 3rd Bns. PW estimates the strength of this group to be 1,000. The unit received UN Arty fire 142400 Jan 51 while marching and PW lost contact with his unit. Early in the morning of the 15 Jan 51 source descended to a village where he passed the day and night. He was captured the following morning.

4. ORGANIZATION AND STRENGTH:
The 2nd Div was composed of 4th, 6th and 17th Regts, a Comm Bn (60 men), an Engr Bn and a Med Bn (100 men).

5. WEAPONS:
PW observed 7 captured American mortars, 2 captured American HMGs, and 2 Russian HMGs in the 6th Regt. Each man had a Russian rifle or captured American rifle with 200 rds of ammo and 2 hand grenades.
About 100 kg of dynamite to be used for blowing up bridges was carried by 30 men of the 251st Engr Bn. The unit was also equipped with picks, shovels, and were armed. No Hvy Wpns or vehicles were observed.

6. INTENTION OF UNIT:
Mission of the 251st Engr Bn was to cut US main supply routes.
