Cooperative but unintelligent. ■■■■ memory. Reliability - Poor.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
16 Aug 50: Inducted into the ■■ Army at SONGJIN (城津). Assigned to the 226th Brig, 5th Bn, 3rd Co, and received ten days basic training bare.
22 Sep 50: 5th Bn arrived in INCHEN (仁川) via HAMHUNG (咸興), WONSAN (元山), YONCHON (連川), SEOUL, and engaged in security city in INCHON area for about three weeks.
10 Oct 50: UN Force landed at INCHON. 5th Bn retreated northward.
14 Nov 50: 5th Bn arrived in SINUIJU (新義州) via UIJONGBU (議政府), YONCHON (連川), YANGDOK (陽德), ANJU (安州), Next day, 5th Bn, 600 strong, crossed the ■…■ – KOREA border.
20 Nov 50: After three days ri■e on train, 5th Bn arrived in MANP’OJIN (滿浦鎭) via ANTUNG (安東), ■…■ (奉天), HAE■■■ (海■), ■…■HWA (通化), ■…■.
25 Nov 50: 226th Brigade was recesigrated the 26th Brigade. The newly organized 26th Brig consisted of five battalions, (each Bn composed of 450 infantrymen) plus Medical Company.
26 Dec 50: 26th Brig advanced to PYONGYANG via KANGKYE (江界).
30 Dec 50: 26th Brig advanced to CHINNAMP'O (鎭南浦).
5 Jan 51: 5th Bn of 26th Brigade advanced only to an unidentified village located approx 45 km south of CHINNAMP'O on the ■…■st.
6 Jan 51: The 5th Bn with the 45mm anti-tank company and 32mm mortar company in line and 1st, 2nd and 3rd company in resorts, conducted landing operations at CHODO (猪島) approx 2 miles off the coast.
7 Jan 51: The landing troops were completely scattered to see by the ROK Security Unit defending the island. PW with about 20 others were captured. Casualties in the landing operation estimated at appox 40.

b. Organization and Strength:
26th Brigade consisted of 5 Inf Bns. Each Bn consisted of 3 rifle companies plus a 45mm AT Gun Co and an 82mm Mortar Co.
5th Bn:
Rifle Cos: 2 HMGs (USSR, model unknown), 5 LMGs (USSR, model unknown), and Russian rifles. About 120 men each.
45mm Co: No 45mm guns. 50 troops with only 25 rifles.
82mm Co: One 82mm mortar (USSR made) and 5 x 60mm mortars (USSR made). 60 men.
Strength:
26th Brigade|Approx 2,000|As of 25 Nov 50, when organized.

c. Unit History:
26th Brigade was organized in MANP’OJIN (滿浦鎭).

d. Code and APO Number:
Secret Designation:

f. Disposition:
When landing at CHODO (猪島), only the 5th Bn participated. Other battalions of the 26th brigade were believed to have remained in the vicinity of CHINNAMP’O (鎭南浦). Around 2300 hours, 6 Jan 51, the 45mm anti-tank gun company and the 82mm mortar company (approx 68 troops) of the 5th Bn were loaded on a fishing boat (tonnage 20 tons). The 1st, 2nd and 3rd Rifle Co’s in reserve were on beaches approx 50 km south of CHINNAMP’O.

g. Intentions:
26th Brigade received an order to carry out security duty in the vicinity of CHINNAMP’O as of 5 Jan 51.

h. Morale:
Morale was low because of lack of ammunition and supply.

i. Replacements:
No replacements received since Bn was organized 25 Nov 50.

j. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
An aid station was always located close to the Hq of the 26th Brigade. The seriously wounded were carried back on stretchers and brought to civilian houses or hospitals behind the lines to receive proper medical care.

k. Supply:
Each man carried five days ration and 100 rounds of ammunition for small arms. No ammunition depots observed. One third of the men of the 5th Bn were not issued small arms as of 5 Jan 51, the date of arrival at CHINNAMP’O.

4. GENERAL:
Foreign Advisors:
Two Russian soldiers, both of them NCOs (ranks were unidentified), were observed in the vicinity of MANP’OJIN (滿浦鎭) 25 Nov 50. Seen only once.
