2. ASSESSMENT:
PW seemed intelligent. He had a good memory and was cooperative. Reliability - Good.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
25 Aug 50: Inducted into the NKA at YONGSONG (龍城). Received approx a month of basic training with the 4th Co, 3rd Repl Training Bn of the Defense Ministry.
26 Sep 50: While undergoing basic training, ordered to MANP’OJIN (滿浦鎭). March was started by Co sized units. Enroute, training was still carried on.
8 Oct 50: PW’s Plat arrived MANP’OJIN after passing SUNGH’ON and SINCH’ANG (新昌) PUKGH’ANG (北倉) YONGWON (寧原) IWON (利原). PW spent the next three days at MANP’OJIN, receiving his pay, clothing and weapons, assigned to the 26th Brig which was known as the Rear Brigade.
11 Oct 50: The members of 571st Unit who reached MANP’OJIN were regrouped with the other stragglers who arrived at MANP’OJIN. The reorganized unit was now known as the 5th Bm, 26th Inf Brig. The Brigade’s code name was YANGJAGANG (楊子江). The entire Brigade started south on foot.
o/a 16 oct 50: 26th Brig arrived YONGBYON (寧辺) after marching on the main Highway from MANP’OJIN passing through KANGGYE (江界) and CHONGH’ON (前川). Later rode on a train until HUICH’ON (熙川). They walked to UNSAN (雲山) along the main highway and then to YONGBYON. The marching was done under cover of darkness.
19 Oct 50: 26th Brig arrived at KAECH’ON (价川) after two days of marching.
22 Oct 50: The Brigade started for SUNCH’ON (順川) arriving three days later.
8 Nov 50: The Brigade arrived in the vicinity of CHINJU-DONG (鎭朱洞).
o/a 10 Nov 50: 26th Brig arrived at YONGGANG (龍岡). The soldiers were quartered in the small villages surrounding the city.
4 Jan 51: 26th Brig entered CHINNAMP’O.
6 Jan 51: PW and 67 others crossed to CHODO (猪島) island and engaged ROK Security police.
7 Jan 51: The PW was captured at 1500 hrs by the ROK Security police. PW was transported to PUSAN by the ROK Navy.

Ammo was received by the Bn from CHINJUDONG (鎭朱洞), approx 16km E of CHINNAMP’O. Bn sent approx 10 men every two days to replenish their ammo supply.

d. Communication:
Observed 3 field telephone, 100m of wire, at Bn Hq.

e. Personalities:
CH’A Chong Ul (車鐘乙), 26, Maj, CO, 5th Bn, 26th Brigade.

f. Code Name:
26th Inf Brig called YANGJAGANG (楊子江).

g. Disposition of Units:
PW saw and talked to NKA soldiers of the 12th NK Div in CHINNAMP’O 4 Jan 51. The 12th Div was in CHINNAMP’O to guard the surrounding coastal area. PW say no CCF in the CHINNAMP’O area.

h. Intention and Location:
5th Bn, 26th Brigade’s mission is to flush out the Security Police force created by the UN Forces still operating in the area. Orders concerning such units are given to the Bn by the local Peoples Government. The Bn functions as a security guard unit attached directly to the NK Department of National Defense. Their area of operation was unknown to the PW.
In addition, it was Brigade’s responsibility to create or assist in the organization of the People’s Government. The crossing to CHODO Island was made for this purpose and it was the first operation in this field for the 5th Bn of the 26th Brig.
In 26th Brig Hq was located in P’YONGYANG (Hearsay). The Bn CP was at all times on the outer edge of the village in which it was located.

i. Morale:
The morals of the 5th Bn was high because of the high percentage of Communist believers. They are determined to reorganize and fulfill their responsibilities to create People’s Government and to secure stability in their area of responsibility.

j. Supply:
Rice was brought to the villagers for cooking. This rice was that received in payment of taxes. When the troops are on the march, one day’s rice ration is issued by the Brigade supply.
Clothing issue was received at MANP’OJIN and since then there has been no issue even to replace the worn garments.

4. GENERAL:
a. UN PsW:
During the latter part of Nov 50, PW saw 8 American PsW at KUTANG’S (■堂) town office guarded by approx 30 NK soldiers.
