1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT
PW was cooperative and talked freely.
Information seems fairly reliable, but it limited due to PW’s short period of military service.
PW seemed to be suffering from his frozen right foot.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
10th Div: 25th, 27th and 29th Inf Regts, Training Bn and Arty Regt (hearsay).
29th Regt: 3 Rifle Bns, Trans Co, SMG Co and other units.
3rd Bn: 3 Rifle Cos.
7th Co: 3 Rifle Plats, and HMG Plat.
1st Plat: 3 Rifle Sqds. Each Rifle Sqd consisted of 10 men.

Remarks: The above Bn had been engaged on two occasion.
PW did not participate in either engagement.
Higher echelon, unknown.

4. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
PW with two others were conscripted 3 Dec 50 at CHASONG (慈城) (NE of MANP’OJIN)
5 Nov 50 PW rode on a train from MANP’OJIN arrived HUICHON 7 Nov 50.
7 Nov 50 PW with 20 others departed from HUICHON on foot and marched through the mountains at night and arrived HWACHON (CT8727) 4 Dec 50.
6 Dec 50, PW with 20 others, all recent conscripted without training, were assigned to the 27th Regt, 3rd Bn, 7th Cc, 1st Plat.
3rd Bn dug defensive positions on a mountain (approx 8km W. of HWACHON) and remained there for approx 20 days. During the period, PW was hospitalized in HWACHON because of illness.
The entire 27th Regt departed from HWACHON 25 Dec 50 and proceeded South.
PW traveled with the 3rd Bn from HWACHON and arrived at CHECHON 13 Jan 50.
Upon arriving at CHECHON, PW was evacuated to a Hospital at YANGJU-DONG, PW with 2 others were captured by ROK troops on 181600 1 Jan 51.

5. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES:
27th Regt (Hq, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Bns) was last seen in the vicinity of CHECHON (DS3010) 13 Jan 51.
PW heard from comrades that the objective of the 10th Div was PUSAN.
No further information as to location and activities since 13 Jan 51.

6. COMMUNICATION:
Field telephones were used above the Bn level.

7. REPLACEMENTS:
One-third of his 3rd Bn were new untrained replacements who joined them at HWACHON on 25 Dec 50.

8. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food was adequate because every man in PW’s unit received an average 3 meals per day.
Food was mostly confiscated from nearby village.
Troops usually carried 4 days food supply.
Ammo: There has been no supply of ammunition to 10th Div units.

9. MORALE:
Morale of PW’s unit was high because they were fighting for the unification of all KOREA.

10. CCF:
PW knew nothing of CCF activities except that he had heard that two CCF Field Armies were aiding the HKA.

11. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
(1) PW did not surrender voluntarily, he was captured while treating his frozen right foot in a farmer’s home.
b. Did you see any United Nations leaflets or hear any loudspeaker broadcasts?
(1) Negative.
c. Can you describe what they said?
(1) Negative.
d. What was your reaction to them?
(1) Negative.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcasts? What did they say or do?
(1) Negative.
