1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative but he seemed to have no knowledge of military service and military organization. He was unable to give the proper names of weapons and was confused in dates and places travelled. However, information appears to be fairly reliable.

PW claimed that in his squad there were only approx 100 rds of ammo left. PW was not issued any ammo during his military service because he was a recruit. He only carried a rifle. PW believed other squads, too, were low on ammo.

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
PW claims that he had not seen the Div Regt and Bn Hqs.
PW heard from the Plat Ldr on Jan 51 at YONGWOL that the 10th Div mission was to take ANDONG (DR7546)

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Inducted into the 2nd Sqd, 2nd Plat, 1st Co, 1st Bn, 27th Regt, 10th Div on 14 Dec 50 at KUMHWA.
Received no training.
While traveling from KUMHWA (CT6530) to YANGJU DONG (DR3030), via the following places:

While PW was ill, and in the rear, he heard runners say that the 29th and 27th Regiments engaged ROK troops and been beaten. North Korean losses were unknown.
PW heard that the Regts were retreating, therefore, 150 patients retreated from MUNGYONG 13 Jan 51 and marched to YANGJU DONG, arriving there on 15 Jan 51.
On 18 Jan 51, 40 patients were captured at YANGJU-DONG Village. Whereabouts of others, unknown.

6. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
Ammo was last received at KUMWHA on 17 Dec 50.
Food was taken forcibly from farmer’s house.

7. REPLACEMENT:
PW stated that 300 conscripts including the PW, were placed into the 10th Div 14 Dec 50 at KUMHWA. At YONGWOL Jan 51 the Plat Ldr informed these recruits that uniform were to be issued at ANDONG.

8. MORALE:
The morale of the troops in PW’s Company was low because they lacked ammo and food. 20% were recent conscripts.

10. CCF:
PW did not see any CCF but he heard rumors 17 Dec 50 at KUMHWA that there were thousands of CCF troops in North KOREA.

11. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:

a. PW voluntarily surrendered to the ROK troops, since he was ill. Moreover, he did not have any weapon.
b. Did you see any United Nations leaflets, or hear any loudspeaker broadcasts?
