1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and talked freely.
Information seems fairly reliable in view of PW’s clear and concise answers.
PW had been with the same unit since entering the service up to his time of capture.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
Ⅱ Corps: 9th, 10th and an unknown Div.
10th Div: 25th, 27th & 29th Regts, Mortar Bn (82mm Co & 76mm Co).
27th Regt: 3 Rifle Bn’s, 82mm Mortar Co, Sig Co, SMG Co, Guard Plat, Recon Plat, Eng Plat, Rear Supply Co.
2nd Bn: 3 Rifle Co’s, Sig Plat, 14.5mm PIRD-41 AT Rifle Plat & Med Plat.
6th Co: 3 Rifle Plats.
3rd Plat: 4 Rifle Sqds. Each Sqd consisted of 11 men.

4. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW was conscripted on 29 Aug 50 into the NKA at KYONIPO. Without receiving any training, PW with 200 others were assigned to the Ⅱ Corps, 10th Div, 27th Regt, 2nd Bn.
The entire 27th Regt departed from KYOMIPO 29 Aug 50 by train and arrived at SEOUL via SARIWON (IC4065), SINNAK (RT5856) and KAESONG (BT8504) on 5 Oct 50.
While travelling from SEOUL to SONGJU (DQ3574), the following route was followed:

At SONGJU, PW with the 2nd Bn received approx 10 days of training in firing the rifle.
Without facing combat, the entire 27th Regt was forced to retreat from SONGJU 26 Sep 50 (Reason unknown).
While travelling to RYACH’ON from SONGJU, the 27th Regt followed the SOBAEK SAN (小白山) Range, TAEBAEK Mt ranges (太白山脈) and arrived at HWACH’ON on 15 Nov 50.
25th, 27th, and 29th Regiments of the 10th Division, after regrouping in HWACH’ON, dug defensive positions on mountains immediately south of (CT8209), along the 38th parallel for approx 36 days.
6 Jan 51, the entire 10th Div crossed the 38th parallel on foot and proceeded south.
PW did not know the name of places between the 38th parallel and TANYANG (DR3988) because of travelling at night over mountains.
Jan 51, the PW’s 27th Regt along with the 29th Regt engaged UN troops at TANYANG for one day.
Five days later, the 27th and 29th Regiments were engaged in a second battle against UN troops at CHOKSONG NI (DR3969) for one day, o/a 11 Jan 51.
During the battle, the PW’s 27th and 29th Regiments were disorganized by UN troops.
Approx five (5) days later, PW with another PW was captured by South Korean Police at YONGDU DONG (龍頭洞), 161000 1 Jan 51.

5. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
The entire 27th and 29th Regiments of the 10th Div were engaged in battle against UN troops at CHONJONG NI o/a 11 Jan 50.
During the battle, the rest of the 10th Division, along with the 25th Regt, were located approx 8 km North of the 27th Regt.
PW stated that the 27th Regt CO ordered all the troops to assemble at a mountain located approx 2 km north of CHOKSONG NI at the time the 27th Regt was disorganized, o/a 11 Jan 51.

6. SIGNAL COMMUNICATION:
Field telephones were used for communication above the Co level.
Runners were used below the Co level.

7. PERSONALITIES:
KIM, Sa Su (김사수), Lt Col (中佐), Bn, CO, 2nd Bn, 27th Regt.

8. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food was obtained from nearby villages. Usually, each man carried two days rations.
Each infantryman in PW’s 2nd Battalion received one issue of 50 rds of small arms ammo when they departed from the 38th parallel 6 Jan 50.
No additional ammo supply enroute.

9. MORALE:
Morale has dropped after engaging in two battles with heavy losses.

10. CCF:
PW knew nothing of CCF activities. He has never been in contact with any CCF troops.

11. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARRE (Special EEI No 10):

a. No, PW did not surrender voluntarily, he was captured by South Korean Police.
