1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW although illiterate is exceptionally alert.
Although PW was in the Artillery Battalion and the Signal Squad, he was unable to offer any special information on these two subjects. However, the information extracted seems to be very reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH: (As of 15 Jan 51)
4th Field Army was composed of the 2nd and 11th Army groups.
2nd Army Group consisted of the 32nd and 38th Armies. The 11th Army Group was composed of the 39th, 40th and 50th Armies.
An anti-tank and tank unit is believed to be attached to the 4th Field Army.
The following units were attached directly to the 11th Army Group Hqs:

To each Army (39th, 40th, and 50th), the following units were attached:

4. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
The Advance Headquarters of the 4th Field Army (hearsay) o/a 13 Jan 51, was in SEOUL.
The Advance Headquarters of the 40th Army o/a 13 Jan 51, was at SUWON (CS2428) (exact location unknown).
The 39th Army o/a 13 Jan 51, was on the right (east) flank of the 40th Army (location unknown).
The 50th Army o/a 13 Jan 51, was on the left flank (west) of the 40th Army (location unknown).
The 32nd and 38th Armies o/a 13 Jan 51, were in the rear of the 40th Army (location unknown). The PW believes that they are being held in reserve.
The 35th, 36th and 37th Infantry Regiments of the 119th Infantry Division together with the 119th Infantry Division Artillery Battalion retreated North of MABUNG PI (CS2808) (Reason for retreat and location unk).

5. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted by the CAN 25 Jun 40, at HANKOU (漢口), and assigned to the 100th Army, 44th Div Between Jun 40, to Feb 41, the PW received basic infantry training.
Feb 41 the 44th Div moved to HUNAN (湖南) to attack Communist units. After successfully destroying the Communist units, the CAN 44th Div was stationed at HUNAN until Oct 49, as occupation troops.
Oct 49, the 44th Div was attacked and defeated by the CCF. The remaining elements of the PW’s unit retreated to KWANGHSI (廣西). Between Feb 49 AND May 49, the 44th Div fought and lost to the CCF at KWANGHSI, from KWANGHSI, the 44th Div retreated to HAINAN Island Jun 49. Between Jun 49 and 2 Apr 50, the PW’s unit reorganized and was training to meet the expected CCF amphibious landing.
2 Apr 50, the CCF landed at HAINAN Island in force. 16 Apr 50, the PW was taken prisoner by the CCF. When the island was secured by the CCF, approximately 4,000 CNA troops were taken FC’s. The PW and the 4,000 CNA troops captured by the CCF on 21 May 50, together with the 4th Field Army landed on the Chinese mainland and travelled by rail to HWANGTUNG (廣東), arriving there during the early part of Jun 50.
From KWANGTUNG the PW and the elements of the 4th Field Army moved by rail to HANKOU arriving there o/a 19 Jun 50. Between 19 Jun 50 and 5 Jul 50, the unit rested at HANKOU.
On or about 6 Jul 50, the unit boarded the train and travelled to ANTUNG where they arrived o/a 29 Jul 50. The unit disembarked at ANTUNG and marched to its training camp located in the eastern outskirts of the city.
On or about 8 Aug 50, the PW and 4,000 CNA PW’s taken at HAINAN Island were integrated into the CCF 4th Field Army.
Between 8 Aug 50, and 24 Nov 50, the PW was trained as a signal man for the Artillery Battalion of the 119th Div.
Between 8 Aug 50 and 24 Nov 50, the 119th Div was trained for night fighting.
24 Nov 50, the 119th Div of the 40th Army crossed the Yalu River under cover of darkness into SINUIJU (XE1839). The PW at that date heard that most of the 40th Army was in Korea several days ahead of his Div From SINUIJU, the PW’s unit marched to the CHONGCH’ON River in the vicinity of KUMO RI (XD4579). From vicinity of KUMO RI the PW’s unit marched through P’YONGYANG, SARIWON, across the 38th parallel into KAESONG until arrived at the IMJIN River o/a 30 Dec 50.
At the IMJIN River they engaged US Forces and advanced to SEOUL, arriving o/a 4 Jan 51.
10 Jan 51, the 119th Div marched south to SUWON (arrived 12 Jan 51). From SUWON, the PW’s unit together with the 35th, 36th and 37th Inf Regt’s marched south over mountain trails to 9.5 km of SUWON (location unknown).
13 Jan 51, the PW’s unit received orders to retreat without making contact with UN Forces.
On 15 Jan 51, the PW and 3 others were separated from their units because of trench feet. They were taken PW’s at HABUNG NI (CS2808) by a US patrol of the 27th Infantry Regiment.

6. REPLACEMENTS:
The PW heard from his commanding officer that the 4th Field Army will draw its replacements from the 3rd CCF Field Army, at present in ANTUNG.
2 Nov 50, an KM from the PW’s unit was sent to ANTUNG, to get tobacco, etc. for the unit. O/a 23 Dec 50, THE KM returned to the unit and told the PW that he definitely saw the elements of the 3rd CCF Field Army in ANTUNG.

7. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
The CCF’s food supply has been exhausted when they crossed the 38th parallel. Since crossing the 38th parallel the troops have been living off the land most of the time.

8. MORALE:
The morale of the CCF is excellent.
To keep the morale high during battle, the troops and forced to sing.
They have also been promised land and homes if they won.

9. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily?
a. Yes, because he wanted freedom of speech, travel, and because food in the CCF army was terrible.
b. Did you see any United Nations leaflets or hear loudspeaker broadcast?
a. Negative.
c. Can you describe what they said?

e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcast? What did they say or do?
