2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared in good physical condition, relaxed and talked freely. However, he lacked information due to his short military service.
Information seems reliable.

10th Div composed of 25th, 27th & 29th Inf Regts.
29th Regt was composed of 3 Rifle Bns, SMG Co and other units.
Each Rifle Bn was composed of 3 Rifle Cos, Mortar Co, Signal Plat, Medical Plat and Supply Plat.
Each Rifle Co composed of 3 Rifle Plats.
Each Rifle Plat was composed of 3 Rifles Sqds HMG Sqd.

  Losses of this Regt were caused when it fought UN forces at YONCH’ON (CT3113) on unknown date.

4. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
PW was inducted into an unknown North Korean Volunteer unit on 12 Sep 50 at KUMCHON (DG2096) together with 30 others. On the same day they traveled by foot to KAERYUNG (DC2602) arriving on 17 Sep 50. On the same day PW was transferred into the 38th Regt, 10th Div, as a horse tender and supply bearer o/a 18 Sep 50, because of the UN offensive, this unit retreated northward via YONGDONG (CE9012) arriving at KUMSONG (CT7853) during mid Nov 50 o/a 1 Dec 50, the 27th Regt moved southward and on an unknown date battled with UN forces at YONCH’ON (CT3118). After 2 hours of battle, this unit victoriously marched southward, over the following route.

O/a 14 Jan 51, PW was separated from the 29th Regt while moving his bowels. He heard from the villagers that his unit passed through YECH’ON (DR5156) on 15 Jan 51. Lie consulted the local residents at YECH’ON about surrendering and 17 Jan 51, voluntarily surrendered to a ROK Unit.

5. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNIT:
O/a 16 Jan 51, PW observed the CP’s of the 10th Div, the 25th Regt and an unknown artillery regt (component of the 10th Div) located at TAEKANG MYON (DR4483) and the CP of the 298th Regt located at YONGDUDONG (DR4771).

6. REPLACEMENTS:
Approx 600 replacements, arriving from an unknown area, were assigned to the 29th Regt at an unknown date. Replacements were N Koreans, wearing ordinary civilian clothes and one-third of whom were armed with M1891/30 and US M1 rifles. Replacements received no prior training; conscripted mainly for supply bearers.

7. FOOD & AMMO SUPPLY:
Food was obtained by confiscation and at times food was bought. At the time PW was separated from his unit, 14 Jan 51, the troops had had nothing to eat because of the lack of food. However, it was believed that food was soon to be acquired.

8. MORALE:
Morale of the troops in the 29th Regt was very low because of the lack of clothing and food, fatigue from long marches and no confidence of victory.

9. COMMUNICATION:
Telephones were employed for communication between Regt and Bns; their methods were not known.

10. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily?
PW voluntarily surrendered because he hated the NKA savage like activities; confiscating commodities and killing anyone who refused to cooperate.
b. Did you see any United Nations leaflets or hear any loudspeaker broadcasts?
Negative.
c. Can you describe what they said?
Negative.
d. What was your reaction to them?
Negative.
e. Did you hear other soldiers discuss leaflets or broadcast?
Negative.
