2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and offered information freely.
Information seems fairly reliable in view of his good memory and alert in answering.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH:
II Corps composed 2nd, 6th and 10th Divs.
10th Div composed of 25th, 27th and 29th Regts.
27th Regt composed of 3 Rifle Bns, LMG Plat, Eng Plat and rear Defense Section (medical unit and transportation unit).
Each Rifle Bn composed of 3 Rifle Co’s.
Each Rifle Co composed of 3 Rifle Plats.
Each Rifle Plat composed of 3 Rifle Sqds.
Each Rifle Sqd consisted of 10 men.
The Eng Plat of the 27th Regt, was composed of 3 Eng Sqds. Each Sqd consisted of 10 men.

4. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
PW was inducted 17 Aug 50 into the NKA at CHINNAMPO (YE0109).
PW with an unknown number of conscripts were assigned to the CHINNAMP’O unit and remained in the city for approx 12 days. Due to UN air attacks, PW stated that they did not receive any training.
This CHINNAMP’O Unit (approx 3,000 men) without weapons departed from CHINNAMP’O and arrived at SONGJU (CQ4389).
While traveling to BONGJU from CHINNAMP’O, the route followed was:

Upon arriving at SONGJU, PW with 29 men from the CHINNAMP’O unit were assigned to the II Corps, 10th Division, 27th Regt, Eng Plat 26 Sep 50.
The entire 10th Div units were forced to retreat from SONGJU northward because of the UN offensive on 25 Sep 50.
The Eng Plat with the 27th Regt retreated from the SONGJU area on the same day.
While traveling northward to KUMHWA from SONGJU, the PW’s Eng Plat followed the SOBAEK SAN Range to YANGGU (DT1117), and arrived at KUMHWA (CT6638)
At KUMHWA, the entire 10th Div (25th, 27th and 29th) was regrouped here.
After remaining at KUMHWA for 1 week, the entire 10th Division departed proceeded south, date, unknown.

PW stated that the 10th Division was forced to return to HONGCHON from CHACHWON due to UN resistance.
Upon arriving in the vicinity south of YONGWOL on the evening of 8 Jan 51, PW with another soldier deserted from the Eng Platoon.
PW believed that the entire 10th Division (25th, 27th and 29th Regts) arrived in the above vicinity when PW’s Eng Platoon arrived.
On 9 Jan 51, PW heard from a farmer at SOKKYO-RI (석교리) that the NKA, which PW believed was the 10th Div, proceeded to CHUNGKO-RI (Phonetic) south of YONGWOL on the evening of 8 Jan 51.

5. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES:
The entire 10th Division units (25th, 27th and 29th) were last seen in the vicinity of SOKKYO-RI (south of the YONGWOL area) as of 082100 1 Jan 51.
PW heard from a comrade that the objective of the 10th Div was the NAKTONG RIVER (exact location, unknown).

6. COMMUNICATION:
Runners were used for communication between Division Hq and Regt’l Hqs.
Field telephones were used between Regt and Co.
Runners were used below the Co levels.

7. REPLACEMENTS:
PW stated that his Eng Plat received approx 20 replacements at HWACHON o/a 20 Dec 50. An unknown number of replacements from YONGGU, and KUMHWA were assigned to various units in the 27th Regt. They were believed to be untrained civilians.

8. FOOD:
Food was obtained locally from deserted villages.
While traveling, each soldier in PW’s Eng Plat carried a 1 day ration.

9. MORALE:
Morale of the PW’s Eng Plat was low due to constant UN air attacks, lack of weapons and inadequate food and clothing.

10. CCF INFORMATION:
PW had not seen any CCF troops. He did not know of any liaison or planned activities between the CCF and NKA.

11. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
a. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
PW surrendered voluntarily because he felt safter deserting from his unit.
