2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and intelligent. Reliability - Good.

3. ARTILLERY:
27th Brigade
Company consisted of 51 EM and 4 officers. (2 plats and one command squad):
Brigade consisted of 4,500 men; battalion 270 men as of 13 Oct 50.
Officers of this artillery unit were trained at the No. 1 Military Academy in P’YONGYANG. The enlisted men were trained by these officers, at KUMCH’ON (金川).
27th Brigade was organized 1 Sep 50 at KUMCH’ON.
No casualties as of 13 Oct.
Men feared air attack.
Since they were not taught what to do in case of air attacks they just took the nearest cover.
Battalion armed with:
1 x 76mm M-1942 AT gun.
44 PPsh M-1941 SMGs
12 M - 1944 carbines
230 M-1938 carbines
15 TT M-1933 TOKAREV pistols
3 GAZ-51 trucks.
Weapons were all Russian make.
Artillery is pulled by GAZ-51 trucks.
Types of ammunition used:
Armor piercing
Fragmentation (used on troops)
High explosive (used on railroads and bridges)
Shells with red painted tips had delayed mechanism. Also saw black tipped shells (type unk).
There was one 76mm M-1942 AT gun per battalion.
Twenty-four rds per gun were carried.
Brigade supply section supplied ammo.
Battery was short of ammunition.
They were ordered to fire only a certain number of rounds at a certain target.
Ammunition is transported to gun position on GAZ-51 trucks.
Unit used any roads possible.
Usually the position area is about 600 meters from a road.
Used nets with grass and brushes over them to camouflage their weapons.
Slit trenches used.
Guns were dug in.
No machine guns in the battalion.
Guns were employed in general support.
Guns generally intended as offensive weapons.
Russian TAM and UNA 1-31 field telephones are available.
Unit uses field phones for communication.
Battalion has a command platoon which is composed of 1 officer and 12 EM which conducted all observations.
No planes available.
The command plat controlled the fire of the battalion. Each plat had maps, a compass, 1 Russian periscope range finder.
Unit could mass fires.
Captured US guns:
Observed 105mm, 37mm AT guns. They were not in use. Amount of ammo available unk. Guns observed at P’YONGYANG while attending the Military academy in Aug 50.
