a. Chronology:
21 Sep 50 - Inducted into the NK Army at HOENGSONG (橫城) and assigned to the 3rd Regt, 1st Bn, HMG Co, 2nd Plat, 2nd Sqd.
23 Sep 50 - 25 Sep 50 - Received two days basic training at HOENGSONG.
26 Sep 50 - 3rd Regt (500 men) left HOENGSONG and reached KASAN-DONG (佳山洞) 10 Oct 50 after passing through HONGCH’ON (洪川), KUMHWA (金化), NAEKUMGANG (內金剛), WONSAN (元山), HAMHUNG (咸興) and CHANGJIN (長津). Received 5 days of basic training.
20 Oct 50 - At a point 12km south of KASAN-DONG (佳山洞), the 3rd Regt was assigned to the 38th Div there and PW was assigned to the 3rd Regt Guard Plat. 3rd Regt had 1,600 men.
1 Nov 50 - After the 38th Div left, the 3rd Regt went to SINP’UNG (新豊) following the division. The 3rd Regt received Russian rifles, SMGs and 45mm mortars. Each Bn received two mortars. About 80% of the 3rd Regt received equipment.
20 Dec 50 - 3rd Regt reached HWACH’ON (華川) after going through YONGWON (寧遠), KOKSAN (谷山), ICH’ON (伊川) and KUMHA (金化). The 38th Div came to HWACH’ON (華川) by Regts.
30 Dec 50 - 3rd Regt Hq was located in HWACH’ON (華川) and the Div Hq was located in YANGGU (楊口). PW and 6 others guarded 2 officer messengers for the division. Four of the guards were captured at NAEP’YONG-NI (四坪里) while the others escaped.
b. Unit Organization and Strength:
This unit did not have any HMGs. The HMG Co had one 45mm mortar.

30 Dec 50, the 3rd Regt Hq was located at HWACH’ON (華川) while the 38th Div Hq was in YANGGU (楊口).
PW heard that stragglers were being apprehended and sent to MANCHURIA for training.
