FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS – 1271)　13 January 1951

Ignorant, cooperative. Reliability, good.

28 Oct 48: Enlisted at MUSAN as a private, trained for more than a year.

Mar 50: Transferred to WONSAN (元山) by train, and assigned to 2nd Regt, 12th Div, with a total of more than 10,000 troops, consisting of 4 regiments (1st, 2nd, 3rd and Arty Regt).

Jun 50: Transferred to 38th parallel S of YANGGU (楊口) by truck.

24 Jun 50: Ordered to invade South KOREA. After a few days, occupied CH’UNCH’ON (春川) and moved to a point 40km S of ANTUNG (安東) via CHINGJU (志州).

Sep 50: 12th Div started to retreat, lost more than 50% of its troops.

15 Nov 50: Arrived KANGGYE (江界). Reorganized and received replacements to bring the total to more than 10,000 troops.

25 Nov 50: Promoted to Jr Sgt.

20 Dec 50: Arrived at 38th parallel, engaged in combat twice and lost many troops, exact figure unknown.

31 Dec 50: Captured vicinity of HONGCH’ON (洪川).

Bn aid stations were located approx 400-500m behind the lines. Light wounds were treated there, while the seriously wounded were transferred to stretcher to field hospitals, usually located near Div CP. The Div CP usually transported casualties to the cities in the rear of the front lines.

Each man carried 4 days rations and 50 rounds. Arty shells were transported by ammo bearers. No depots. The ammo was issued at KANGGYE (江界).

One Russian Lt Colonel at Regt CP in Jun 50, near the 38th parallel. Seen twice.
