2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and intelligent. Reliability – Fair.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
16 Aug 50 – Conscripted into the NK Army and assigned to the 101st Tank Brigade at P’YONGYANG as an aid man.
18 Aug 50 – Brigade advanced to CH’ORWON (鉄原) where PW learned about frontline sanitation system.
3 Sep 50 – Brigade arrived in P’ALTANG (八堂) for a rest.
6 Sep 50 – Brigade passed YONGDUNGP’O (永登浦).
9 Sep 50 – Rejoined unit at TAEJON (大田).
10 Sep 50 – Brigade was about to attack at CH’ANGNYONG (昌寧) but was met by the retreating 9th NK Div, so Brigade retreated also.
11 Sep 50 – Brigade tried to attack from YONGSAN (靈山) but was completely destroyed by planes.
13 Sep 50 – Remainder of 101st Tank Brigade retreated to SINBAN-NI (新反里).
15 Sep 50 – Brigade fought and retreated to HYOPCH’ON (陜川) where the unit was dissolved.
17 Sep 50 – PW passed TAEJON (大田) and went toward CHOCH’IWON (鳥致院) since a battle was being fought there. PW retreated toward the mountains.
5 Oct 50 – Reached K.NGNUNG (江陵) and retreated along the coastline following the retreat of the 5th Div.
20 Oct 50 - Followed the 5th Div around WONSAN and reached CH’ONNAE-RI (川內里) where they were put in with the 2nd Div.
2 Nov 50 – The 2nd Div retreated and reached NAMHUNG-MYON (南興面). Here, the 2nd Div was reorganized.
15 Dec 50 – The 2nd Div came down to HWACH’ON (華川) and passed the 38th parallel.
20 Dec 50 – 2nd Div went into its first action after reorganization at SAKKYO-RI (朔橋里). The 17th Regt lost about 200 men bringing their strength down to 500 or 600.
26 Dec 50 – Retreated to ORON-NI (魚論里). When PW and a friend were resting in one of the village houses, his unit left during the night and when he work up in the morning, the village of ORON-NI (魚論里) was occupied by ROK 8th Div.
27 Dec 50 – Surrendered.

c. Communications:
Company and below: Runners.
Battalion: Field phones.
Regiment: 2 wireless transmitters.

d. Intentions:
The 2nd Div had the job of disrupting the UN Forces’ supply lines.

e. Morale:
The morale was low because the Div was so badly mauled.

f. Replacements:
After reorganization none.

g. Evacuation and Treatment of Wounded:
Regt aid station was located about 500-600m behind the lines near the Div CP and Regt CP.
Seriously wounded were just left behind when the Regt retreated.

h. Supply:
Riflemen carried about 150 rounds and men with SMGs carried 200-300 rounds.
The food for the Regt came from the villages they entered.

4. GENERAL:
Pay of Personnel:
Pvt – 100 won per month.
Jr Sgt – 150 won per month.
Sr Sgt – 200 won per month.
M/Sgt – 300 won per month.
Weapons Feared Most:
Napalm bomb.
Strafing.
Artillery fire.
