ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2945　22 January 1951

FIELD REPORT (24 Div - LDI - 0153)　18 January 1951

Subject was captured by CCF troops approx 4 km N of TAEGONG-NI CS 7988 on 030400 Jan 51. Subject was immediately taken to TAEGONG-NI where 30 other ROK PWs were confined. Upon arriving at TAEGONG-NI observed apprx two squads of CCF troops carrying rifles and 5 or 6 light mortars (cal u/k). 040200 Jan the PWs and CCF troops moved to location apprx 15 miles N of TAEGONG-NI because of air attacks. Only light damage (5 or 6 CCF troops killed) by air attack. Subject escaped 040400 Jan 51 and arrived in vic of SINCHON-NI CS 6772 on 051800 Jan 51 by-passing TAEGONG-NI on 041100 Jan 51. Apprx 10 CCF troops observed at TAEGONG-NI. Subject departed this location 130900 Jan and arrived at MUNEO-RI CS 5463 on 142000 Jan 51. In this village a great number of CCF troops were observed. No hvy weapons or vehicles observed. Immediately departing to PU■WON-NI CS 5051. Large numbers of CCF troops were observed at PU■WON-NI. Subject departed on 150800 Jan 51 and arrived at SU■SONG-NI CS ■752 on ■■1000 Jan 51. At this location subject was captured and briefly interrogated by a CCF officer who spoke broken Japanese. This CCF officer (rank u/k) jokingly stated that his parents were Japanese but was born and raised in China. At this location subject observed apprx one Bn of CCF troops. These troops were building air raid shelters at foot of hills and in village. One 3/4 ton truck and one jeep was also observed. No hvy weapons observed. Subject was released on 160900 Jan 51 and arrived at village (name u/k) apprx 5 miles N of ICHON on 161400 Jan 51. Apprx 30 CCF troops were observed in this village. Arrived in ICHON 171000 and observed many propaganda posters on buildings and fences which were signed by the 929 Guerrilla Unit. It stated that UN forces are retreating and are in full flight. Also stated that SEOUL has been liberated. Subject was picked up on 171700 Jan 51 by elements of 5th RCT and was brought in from ICHON.
