FIELD REPORT (24 Div - LDI - 0152) 17 January 1951

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Subject was captured by the elements of the CCF at vic of KANGGU-DONG CS 5295 on 020800 Jan 51. Subject heard from CCF soldier that two CCF regiments were in KANGGU-DONG. 032000 Jan 51 the CCF regiments departed for CHONGPYONG-NI CS 6176 taking the ROK PWs. No heavy weapons or vehicles observed enroute but CCF troops was observed at majority of the villages. Upon arriving at CHONGPYONG-NI observed approx one Bn strength of CCF troops in outskirts of town. The regiments departed this location 041900 Jan 51 and arrived at SO-MYON, TAEGONG-NI CS 8266 on 050300 Jan 51. The only weapons observed by subject were rifles, three mortars (Size u/k) and five light arty pieces (Caliber u/k), each drawn by one horse. Remained at this location for three days. During daylight hours all CCF troops hid in surrounding hills while the weapons were heavily camouflaged and left in the village. At this location subject observed two US PWs in village and heard there were total of four US PWs. On 081900 Jan 51 all ROK PWs were evacuated to HANGO-RI (phonetic) which was located approx 8 km after crossing the PUKHAN River. No further knowledge of US PWs. Arrived at HANGO-RI on 090400 Jan 51 and was immediately taken to a PW Enclosure. Approx 70 ROK PWs were confined there, however no US PWs was observed. At the enclosure the PWs were never indoctrinated nor put to work. Subject heard from other PWs that approx one Bn of CCF were located in vic. On 111900 Jan 51 all ROK PWs were evacuated and subject heard that their destination was SOCHON-NI CS 7488. Subject escaped approx 2 km N of TAEGONG-NI CS 6988 on 120200 Jan 51. Subject traveled S following the river and arrived at NAM-MYON vic of MUGOL-LI CS 7773 on 131800 Jan 51. CCF troops were observed digging trenches all throughout this trip. Departed this location on 140800 Jan 51 and arrived in the vic of CHIPYONG-NI CS 7948 on 141700 Jan 51 by passing SANUM-NI CS 7763 on 141400 Jan 51. Approx 21/2 miles N of SANUM-NI subject observed large number of CCF troops in village called CHIEN (phonetic). In vic of CHIPYONG-NI subject heard from refugee that numerous CCF troops were in CHIPYONG-NI. On 150800 Jan 51 subject departed this location and arrived at TAESIN-MYON CS 7538 on 151600 Jan 51 via KOKSU-RI CS 7842. At KOKSU-RI observed only few CCF troops about. No enemy observed at TAESIN-MYON. Departed this location 160800 Jan 51 and arrived few miles N of YOJU CS 7928 where subject was picked up by elements of the 21st Inf.
Subject stated that he did not carry a weapon all through the trip and did not fire at UN troops nor did he hear shots fired prior to being picked up.
