FIELD REPORT (2 - LDI - 0044) 26 November 1950

1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
Evaluation: PW was cooperative in answering questions and info seems to be reliable.
Recommended for further interrogation.

3. CHRONOLOGY:
o/a 24 Oct 50 unknown strength of 40th Army from ANTUNG, MANCHURIA crossed the border at SINUIJU.
118th, 119th and 120th Div of 40th Army arrived vic of UNSAN (YE3928) o/a 29 Oct 50 and they went up to UNTAE-san (mt), approx 32 km NW of UNSAN and fought against UN force for 2 days. o/a 1 Nov 50 they advanced to UNSAN vicinity and fought again for approx 9 days. o/a 8 Nov 50 120th Div withdrew into mountain, approx 12 km NW of UNSAN for about 2 weeks rest, but PW had no knowledge of whereabouts of other 2 Divs. PW believes that 120th Div lost approx 2000 men in last battle.
On 24 Nov 50 359th Regt consisting of 5000 men departed UNSAN area and advanced toward a location, approx 2 km W of SINHUNG-DONG. 5th and 6th Cos consisting of 240 men received orders from Bn CO for the companies to cut the road between SINHUNG-DONG and TONGCHONG (BV6420) and defend this road block at all cost.
Upon crossing CHONGCHONG River, approx 2 km NNE of SINHUNG-DONG on 2400 hrs 25 Nov 50 they received heavy attack by UN Force and unit scattered.
PW believes that 2nd Bn CP and 4th Co are located in the hill, vic of BV4925, but PW does not have any knowledge of the 1st and 3rd Bn.
Last observed Div CP moving in same direction from UNSAN Area where they had been assembling for approx 2 weeks.

4. WEAPONS:
359th Regt as of 24 Nov 50: 4 x 82mm mortar with 80 rds per mortar; 4 Chinese HMGs with 1500 rds per gun; 4 Jap 45mm AT guns with 80 rds per gun; 6 LMGs with 1000 rds per gun and unknown number of captured US 76mm field guns.

5. SUPPLIES:
Ammo and food supplies were brought from ANTUNG, MANCHURIA by trucks or horse carts during hours of darkness (amount unk).

7. MORALE:
Most of the troops is low, because of this cold weather and insufficient food and clothing.
