2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was cooperative and is familiar with the military service. Information seems reliable.

3. PERSONAL & UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted Aug 1948 at HAERYONG and assigned to the present unit.
Received 8 months infantry training.
Assigned duties as clerk in the Cultural Section, April 1949 to Dec 1949.
Performed general duties at the Political Section, Dec 1949 to Feb 1950.
Attended the Central Ministry of Interior, Officer’s School, March to May 1950.
Commissioned Jr Lieutenant on 20 May 1950.
Assigned duties as clerk in the 4th Regiment.
The entire 2nd Division departed HAMHUNG by train on 12 May 1950 to an unknown area near the 38th Parallel.
The 2nd Division passed through the following places after entering South KOREA.

On 15 Sep 50, the disorganized 2nd Division began retreating northward in small groups through the SOBAEK and TAEBAEK Mountain ranges. The troops were formerly ordered to proceed to HUICHON where the 2nd Division was to be reorganized.
PW and the 4th Regiment Hqs arrived at HUICHON on 15 Nov 50. Approx two thirds of the 2nd Division troops had arrived in HUICHON after their retreat.
The 2nd Division was reorganized and was issued new weapons 25 Nov 50.
The entire 2nd Division departed HUICHON on 28 Nov 50 on foot and arrived in the HONCHON area, 25 Dec 50.
PW was captured on 27 Dec 50 while aiding the wounded, away from his unit.

No heavy weapons such as artillery or tanks were in the 2nd Division.
All transporting of equipment was by manpower.

5. LOCATION AND ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
PW heard that the 2nd Division was to be moved to approx 20 Km NE of HONGCHON (DS 0472) from ORON-NI (DS 1898).
The entire 2nd Division arrived at ORON-NI on 25 Dec 50 and departed for the designated area on 26 Dec 50.
PW, while aiding a wounded man was captured 27 Dec 50, in HUICHON (BV 6849).
During the period from 15 to 27 November 1950, the 2nd Division received orders to proceed to its designated area, KUMCHON (DQ 2298), by use of mountain trails and secondary roads. PW heard from the 2nd Division commander that their mission and objective were to infiltrate through the UN lines, possibly at a point where no UN troops were located and to proceed south to KUMCHON at all costs. From here the 2nd Division was to disrupt the UN lines of communications.
During the 2nd Division’s movement up to the time PW was captured, any possible contact with the UN troops was avoided, although they had minor skirmishes occasionally.

7. AMMO & FOOD SUPPLIES:
Before crossing the 38th parallel, food was procured locally. Two days food supply was carried by each soldier, upon crossing the 38th parallel. No food stockpiles were seen.
Each rifleman carried 300 rds of ammo. No transporting of ammo or ammo stockpiles were observed.

8. MORALE:
Morale was low due to the North Korean’s lack of air support. Many were believed contemplating desertion.

9. TRAINING IN MANCHURIA:
PW heard from a NKA unit commander that 3 Corps (designations unknown) of recruits were sent to MANCHURIA for military training under Korean instructors.
