2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very vague about dates and place names. Reliability: Fair.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
20 Sep 50 – Conscripted into VOLUNTEER FORCE and sent towards TAEJON (大田) for training, but due to UN of offensive, the 33rd Brigade was ordered north.
End Nov 50 – 900 men of the 33rd Brigade reached WIWON (渭原) intact. The unit had about 100 rifles in addition to the pistols carried by the officers. 33rd Brigade was absorbed by the 6th Division there. Unit was rearmed with old equipment, but no training received.
o/a Dec 50 – Unit left WIWON passing by HUICHON (熙川), KUNMORI (금모리), and over maintain passes into HWACH’ON (華川).
5 Jan 51 - 2nd Battalion of 15th Regiment entered WONJU under slight resistance at night. During the morning, however, the 200 men of the battalion were trapped by a US Regiment and virtually annihilated. PW and 30 others became PsW at this time.

4. GENERAL:
15th Regiment saw no enemy action until it came to WONJU. 6th Division absorbed about 900 men from Brigade which was newly formed in SOUTH KOREA, and these had no training whatsoever.

Morale and Propaganda:
PW never saw a UN leaflets nor voluntarily surrendered.
When PW saw the Chinese Red troops in KAECH’ON (价川) while marching southward, he lost all hope of living. Though he knew the fight against UN forces was hopeless, the Chinese intervention meant a longer and fiercer struggle resulting in greater destruction.
