2. ASSESSMENT:
PW being illiterate had little information. Information obtained fairly reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
29 Aug 50 – Conscripted at WONSAN(元山) and assigned to the 249th Unit.
31 Aug 50 – PW and 500 others were sent to the KANGNUNG (江陵) vicinity by foot, taking the Eastern coast route. Arrived in that vicinity o/a 14 Sep 50. After two weeks of beach patrol duty, PW’s unit had orders to retreat to KANGGYE (江界), by the mountain paths of the TAEBAL mountain range.
O/a 3 Dec 50 – Arrived at KANGGYE. Enroute, PW was attached to the 33rd Brigade in the small village of TAMPUNGYONG (丹楓領). 20 Nov 50, at KANGGYE, half of the 33rd Brigade was reorganized into the 12th Division and the other half into the 6th Division.
O/a Dec 50 – The 6th Division started for HWACH’ON (華川) by way of TOKCH’ON (德川), YANGDOK (陽德), and ICHON (伊川), taking mountain paths and the main highway. O/a 25 Dec 50 arrived at HWACH’ON. After staying at HWACH’ON for three (3) days, PW’s unit started off for HONGCHON (洪川). While eating their noon meal, PW’s platoon was captured 1 Jan 51.

PW did not see any UN leaflets or hear anything about UN broadcasts.
