1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was a farmer prior to induction into the Nationalist Army. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Interrogation was conducted through a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese, and evaluation of information should be assessed accordingly. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology.
PW volunteered into the Nationalist Army Nov 42 at CHUCHIAYING (據家營). The same month, PW was sent to KAIYUAN-HSIEN (開原市) for training and was assigned to CNA 1st Route Army. PW remained at KAIYUAN-HSIEN for approx. three yrs, receiving basic and advance combat training. O/a Aug 45, the entire 1st Route Army departed KAIYUAN-HSIEN by foot and arrived at ANNAN (安南) at same month, and the 1st Route Army was redesignated the 93rd Army. The 93rd Army remained at ANNAN until Nov 46 and departed or CHINCHOU (錦州), arriving the same month. At CHINCHOU, the 93rd Army was engaged in action with the CCF Army for apporx 3 months and advanced to SIPING (西平). O/a May 47, the 93rd Army withdrew back to CHINCHOU and remained until 10 Oct 48. On 10 Oct 48, the entire 93rd Army capitulated to CCF and for 3 months they were indoctrinated on communism. O/a Jan 49, the entire 93rd Army was integrated into the CCF 50th Army and departed CHINCHOU for HUPEN (湖北), arriving o/a Jul 49. O/a Jul 49, the entire 50th Army departed HUPEH and arrived at the unknown place at the border on 10 Oct 50 via HONAN (河南), SANTUNG (山東), KENJIN (天津), PEIPING (北平), and FASHIH (飯石). On 10 Oct 50, the entire 50th Army crossed the border into KOREA. For approx. one month from place to place (location or place name u/k to PW), the movement was at night and during the day they concealed themselves in the mountains. While on guard duty with 2 others, PW deserted and surrendered to the troops of the 11th ROK Regt.

b. Unit Organization and Strength.
The 50th Army was composed of the 148th, 149th, and 150th Divs. The 148th Div was composed of the 442nd, 443rd, and 44th Regts and on Mortar Bn. The 442nd Regt was composed of 3 rifle Bns and one HW Co. The 3rd Bn was composed of 2 rifle Cos and one HWG Co. The 7th Rifle Co was composed of 3 rifle Plats and on Mortar Squad.

c. Equipment.
The Mortar Bn had 9 mortars (size u/k). the HW Co had 9 X 81mm mortars. The HMG Co had 4 HMGs. The troops were armed with Chinese made rifles. The above weapons were brought into KOREA.

d. Disposition.
PW heard from his Co Comdr (name u/k) that the 148th Div Hq was located approx. 6 km E of SINAM-NI (YE095215). Also heard that the 442nd Regt’l Hq was located approx. 4 km E of SINAM-NI.

e. Communications.
Communication was by means of telephone and messenger.

f. Knowledge of Other Units.
PW stated that the 2nd and 3rd Bns of the 442nd Regt were in the vic of SINAM-NI as of 26 Nov 50. The two Bns were not yet engaged with the enemy. PW believed that the entire 148th Div is concentrated in the area approx. 16 km E of SINAM-NI.

g. Morale and Propaganda.
The morale of the troops in his unit was low. Approx 80% of the men were former CAN troops and that they have no desire to fight. PW did not observe any UN surrender leaflets.

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo Supplies.
No additional food supply was received by PW’s unit since crossing the border, and food was procured locally.
Each man was issued 70 rds of s/a ammo prior to crossing the border.

b. U. S Prisoners of War.
PW observed approx. 100 US POWs on 8 Oct 50 at an unknown location in MANCHURIA, approx. 20 km in from the border. No further details.
