1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW appeared to be in good physical condition at time of interrogation. PW was a farmer prior to being inducted into the Chinese Nationalist Army. PW was cooperative and of average intelligence. Interrogation was conducted through a Korean interpreter who has knowledge of Chinese, and evaluation of information obtained should be assessed accordingly. Recommended for further interrogation.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
a. Chronology:
PW was inducted into the Chinese Nationalist Army 10 Jun 49 at TACHU-HSIEN (丈竹縣) and was assigned to the 108th Army. PW received 31/2 months of basic training at CHENGTU (成都). On 7 Oct 49, the 108th Nationalist Army capitulated to the CCF and was integrated into the 50th CCF Army. 24 Oct 49, the 50th Army departed CHENGTU and marched to WANHSIEN (萬縣), via LIANGSHAN (梁山), arriving 24 Dec 49. At WANHSIEN, the 50th Army rested for approx nine (9) days. On or about 2 Jan 50, the 50th Army departed WANHSIEN by river steamboat and travelled the YANGTZE River and arrived at CHUN SIANG-HSIEN (鈡■縣) on 17 Jan 50. From 17 Jan 50 to 14 Jun 50, the entire 50th Army remained at CHUN SHIANG HSIEN doing farm work. O/a 14 Jun 50 the 50th Army departed CHUN SHIANG-HSIEN on foot and arrived at LIAOTUNG (遼東) 14 Jul 50 via HSIAOKANG (孝岡). From 14 Jul 50 to 29 Sep 50, the 50th Army had the following trainings at LIAOTUNG: Mountain climbing, night fighting tactics and advanced combat training. 29 Sep 50 the 50th Army departed LIAOTUNG by rail and arrived at ANTUNG (安東) 10 Oct 50. The 442nd Regt crossed the border from ANTUNG and marched into KOREA, travelling by night and arrived at P’YONGWON (平元) o/a 25 Oct 50. The 442nd Regt remained at P’YONGWON for approx 10 days planning an offensive operation. O/a 5 Nov 50 the 442nd Regt advanced south. PW and another soldier lost contact with their unit and while searching for their unit PW was captured by an element of the US Forces in vic of CHONGJU 25 Nov 50.

b. Unit Organization and Strength.
The 50th Army consisted of the 148th, 149th, and 150th Divs. The 148th Div consisted of the 442nd, 443rd, and 44th Regts. The 442nd Regt consisted of 3 Bns (Inf). The 1st Bn consisted of 3 Rifle Cos and 1 HMG Co. The 2nd Co consisted of 3 Rifle Platoons.
Original strength of the 1st Bn was approx 570, present strength approx 560. Original strength of 2nd Co was approx 140, present strength approx 135. Original strength of 3rd Plat was approx 36, present strength, approx 35.

c. Equipment.
The HMG Co had 9 HMGs. Each Rifle Co had 3 LMGs. The personnel were armed with US “Grease” Guns and Chinese rifles. The above weapons were brought over from CHIAN and are presently in KOREA.

d. Personalities.
LI, Hsio (李孝), rank, u/k, Exec Off, 2nd Co.

e. Morale and Propaganda.
PW stated that approx 2/3 of the men of the 442nd Regt are former Nationalist soldiers and that their morale is low because they do not believe in communistic ideas. No surrender leaflets were observed by PW.

4. GENERAL:
a. Food and Ammo Supplies.
Food supplies were received twice (15 trucks each trip) since crossing the border. (Route & source u/k.) No ammo was received since crossing the border. Each man was issued 60 rds of s/a ammo prior to crossing the border.

b. CCF Air Force.
PW observed, from train, an Air Field located approx 40 km S of MUKDEN on 30 Sep 50. At this Air Field, approx 30 single engine fighter type planes were observed. PW was unable to observe the markings on the aircrafts.
