2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was intelligent, however he was hesitant and uncooperative. Information is however assessed as reliable.

3. TACTICAL INFORMATION:
Chronology:
19 Jul 50: PW became the chief clerk of the Peoples Committee at RIRI SHI until 29 Sep 50 when the NKA started its retreat northward.
30 Oct 50: PW followed the NKA troops across the 38th Parallel.
10 Nov 50: The PW and other SK collaborators were assembled at CHUNGSON RI and discussed method of carrying on their work in the ROK. This group numbered approx 400 collaborators.
20 Nov 50: The PW and other SK were screened by the NKLP at IMDAN (任壇) and at HASONKAN (■松江) which was the Hq of the II NKA Corps.
25 Nov 50: PW and 40 others were selected for Recon duty and received one week training. This group was the first to train for recon duty. The second group of trainees numbered 50. They were taught the following: Tactical recon, strategical recon, basic spy and sabotage procedures, methods, of military operation.
1 Dec 50: The Recon class went on maneuvers to POKKE (福■) and PYONGAN (平■) for three days under the supervision of C/S HONG.
4 Dec 50: The Recon class reported to Recon Hq II Corps located at KUMHA GUN KNUUM MYON (金華郡金南面) town office.
8 Dec 50: The second class of trainees reported to Hq. The 90 men (approx) from the 1st and 2nd class were segregated according to age and those under 30 yrs were said to be personnel who would be inducted into NKA after passing a physical. This group numbered 40.
10 Dec 50: The personnel over 30 yrs of age were sent to TAMOKRI (다목리), where they were screened and asked for their preference of localities in which they were to be assigned for duty.
16 Dec 50: The PW and 24 others were sent to II Corps Recon Sect located in SACHANG RI (泗川里).
19 Dec 50: PW and 11 others who formed one squad were ordered to cross the 38th parallel. These men were divided into two groups of six and ordered to reconnoiter the SEOUL and INCHON area and return by the 27 Dec 50. However, due to illness three men dropped out and an additional 5 men were assigned to replace them. The total of 14 men were escorted to a point where they met an agent returning from SEOUL who gave them the route to be taken and location of friendly troops in CHONKUK. However upon arrival in the vicinity of CHONKUK they learned that the ROK troops were in control of the village that they crossed the 38th in the vicinity of TARAKKOL (다■골) and took the mountain path in the WONBANG (■■) mountains. They encountered a lone US sentry who fired upon them and then the 14 men scattered. PW made his way following the mountains to UIJONGBU (議政府) where he was captured at a checkpoint 23 Dec 50.

Mission and Intention:
To ascertain the landing of Japanese troops at INCH’ON. To learn the disposition of the American and ROK troops. To learn the number of sentries in and around the Regt and Div area and their tours. To learn the strength and disposition of SK police and Security Guard in the vicinity of SEOUL and INCH’ON.
To learn the public opinion of the populace regarding this war.
Through conversing with other agents in the Recon Bn, he believes the mission of the II NK Corps to be the opening of the path between the 38th parallel and SEOUL for the movement of friendly forces. Furthermore it is presumed that it will assist the main striking force in its drive toward SEOUL.

Chain of Command:
The exact chain of command of the Recon (G-2) unit was not known to the PW. However the Hq from which he departed at SACHANG RI was the Recon (G-2) Fwd and that this Hq received its orders from II Corps Recon Hq located at KUNNUMMYON. The names and ranks of the officers in Recon Hq was not known.

Personalities:
LEE, Sun Yop - II Corps Civilian Political Affairs Committee member - Age - approx 50, was sent to MOSCOW as a delegate during 1948 or 1949 to participate in the Commemoration of the Russian Revolution.
HA, Te Bok - II Corps Civ Agent - Age - 32, former president of RITON People’s Committee and former resident of RIRI.
KO, Chung Mo - Age 32, height 5’6”, former resident of CHONRAPOK DO IKSAN GUN HAM NAMYON. II Corps Civ Agent.
CHUNG, Hyon Cho - II Corps Civ Agent - Age - 23-25, blind in one eye, former resident of CHONRA NUMDO KWANJU SHI.
CHUNG? Un Yong - Age - 36-37, looks older than his age, former resident of CHOLLA PUKTO PUAN GUN PUANUPME.
LEE, Ki Fun - Age - 32-33. Former resident of CHOLLA PUKTO IMSHIL UM NAE.
HONG, (FNU) - Recon instructor, possibly C/S of Recon Hq II NK Corps, holder of NK award for action in KANNUN. Graduate of intelligence School. Specialist in espionage and sabotage.
KIM, (FNU) - Recon instructor, age 19. Former CO of CCF Co in the 8th Route Army. Five years service with CCF. Very temperamental. Taught tactical intelligence and followed military report procedure.

4. GENERAL INFORMATION:
Special Intelligence:
The PW was screened and submitted to personal security clearance checks numbering five times after crossing into NK.
The PW submitted a written personal history statement following a set form give him by the screening committee. The following information was listed. Place of birth, home address, name, age, education, name of school last graduated, social position, position of parents at birth, personal occupational history starting from the 8th year of age to the present.
The screening board paid close attention to the occupational history and after the personal interview the board asked PW to list one reference. The person listed in the reference is then called and the entire personal history statement is covered thoroughly by having this person ascertain to everything listed.
