ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2810　6 January 1951

FIELD REPORT (ADVATIS - 1253)　3 January 1951

PW cooperative but lacks information. Not too intelligent. Reliability - Poor.

9 Jul 50: Inducted into the 507th Brigade, 6th Bn, 3rd Co, 1st Plat, 3rd Sqd at NAJIN (羅津) together with approx 200 others. Received basic training.

10 Aug 50: Moved from NAJIN to SINP’O (新浦).

9 Oct 50: The 6th Bn retreated north and the Bn’s of the 507th Brigade separated during the withdrawal.

20 Nov 50: Arrived at HAMGYONG NAMDO, CHASAN-MYON (子山面) via PUNGSAN (豊山) and SAMNAM (三南) on foot with about 360 men. Set up defensive positions in 5 days.

25 Nov 50: First contact with the enemy at PAEKSOLRONG (白雪嶺). After the battle, the unit retreated 12 km north of CHASAN-MYON (子山面) and set up defensive positions.

28 Nov 50: Advanced south after the UN Forces withdrew due to Chinese intervention.

29 Nov 50: Set up defensive positions. PW learned from his company commander that the UN Forces were withdrawing. When the 1st Co and 2nd Co were hiding in the mountain and the 3rd Co was having dinner, a ROK unit of about 30 men attacked the troops in the village.

30 Nov 50: Retreated to CHASAN-MYON (子山面).

1 Dec 50: Advanced southward 12 km because all UN Forces were withdrawing to the south, occupied CHUNGP’YONG-NI (仲坪里).

2 Dec 50: Unit departed and arrived the next day in PUNGSAN (豊山).

8 Dec 50: 1st Co, 2nd Co and 1st Plat of the 3rd Co got rides on trucks and arrived 8 km north of PUKCH’ONG (北靑).

9 Dec 50: Fought at PUKCH’ONG (北靑). During the battle, the 1st Co and 2nd Co of PW’s unit retreated leaving the 1st Plat of the 3rd Co to be captured. PW and 12 others were captured.

507th Brigade: 6 Bn’s - 360 men each

As of 9 Dec 50, the 6th Bn had only about 200 men.

Neither the 45mm Arty Co nor the AT Plat had any artillery. HMG Plat had 3 maxim type machine guns. Mortar Plat had 4 mortars, caliber unknown.

The 6th Bn of the 507th Brigade was organized on 10 Jul 50 at NAJIN (羅津). PW heard that the 507th Brigade came directly under the command of the NK War Department. This Bn did not have any artillery or heavy weapons.

PAK, Song Kyu (Kanji unknown) (박성규), Capt, 6th Bn Commander, 37. Was wounded in PUKCH’ONG (北靑).

CH’OE, Tae Il (Kanji unknown) (최태일), Lt, 6th Bn, 3rd Co’s CO, 30. 9 Dec 50 last seen in PUKCH’ONG (北靑).

Morale low because most of the men were young inexperienced recruits.

6th Bn never received any replacements.

Each man carried 2 bowls of rice, 300 rounds of ammunition, 2 grenades and a 7.62mm M1891/30 rifle.
