Cooperative. PW seemed to be in fair physical condition. Information appears reliable.

3. T/O & E AND STRENGTH OF UNITS: (As of Nov 50)
66th Army is composed of the 196th, 197th, and 198th Divs.
198th Div composed of the 592nd, 593rd, and 594th Regts.
593rd Regt composed of 3 Rifle Bns, plus 1 Mortar Bn.
3rd Bn composed of the 7th, 8th, and 9th Rifle Cos, plus Heavy Weapons Co.
7th Co composed of 3 plats.
3rd Plat composed of 7th, 8th, and 9th Sqds.
7th Sqd composed of the 1st, and 2nd sections with 3 men in each section.
3rd Plat, 7th Co, 3rd Bn

PW knows of no Koreans, Japanese, or Russians in the 66th Army.
PW believes that the 66th Army is intact and under the same chain for command now as it was prior to crossing the YALU River into KOREA.
According to the PW, no parts of CCF units have been integrated into Korean units.

4. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
Conscripted into the 66th Army during 1948 in HOPEH SHENG (河北省).
Departed HOPEH SHENG during Dec 48, by train with the 198th Div, arrived SHENSI SHENG (山西省) Dec 48.
Departed SHENSI SHENG Jan 49, by train, arrived CHANG-CHIA-KOU (張■口), CHA HA ER SHENG Feb 49.
Departed CHAN-CHIA-KOU Apr 49 by train, arrived TIEN-CHING (天津), HOPEH SHENG, during Apr 49.
Departed TIEN-CHING by train with 198th Div, arrived ANTUNG 29 Oct 50.
Departed from ANTUNG 5 Nov 50, marched with the 198th Division over the large bridge across the YALU River, and arrived SINUIJU 051700 I Nov 50.
Departed SINUIJU 5 Nov 50, marched at night only, and arrived YANGGI-DONG 18 Nov 50.
24 Nov 50, when PW took 2 EM on a reconnaissance, he was captured with those 2 EM by a ROK patrol.

6. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
When the 198th Div departed from ANTUNG on 5 Nov 50, rations for 3 days were carried with them. These rations consisted of corn and hard field biscuits. Personnel subsisted after this was exhausted by confiscating food from North Korean farmers.

7. MORALE:
Personnel in the 593rd Regiment had low morale since they could see no reason for being in KOREA.

8. SIGNAL COMMUNICATION:
The 198th Division had the following means of communication.
Wireless transmitter-receivers - At Divisional level
Telephones - At Divisional & Regiment levels
Couriers - At all levels
Whistles - At Div, Regt, Bn, Co, Plat & Sqd levels
Bugles - At Div, Regt, Bn, Co, and Plat levels
Signal Flare Pistols - At Div and Regt levels
Flutes - At Div and Regt levels
Bird Calls - Used at all levels to inform other CCF soldiers of the locations of CCF units. Each unit has its own bird call. PW’s own platoon used the whip-poorwill call.
PW was not a volunteer for Korean service, the 66th Army was not a volunteer unit, and PW received no instructions to appear to be a volunteer in the event of capture.
66th Army has not undergone amphibious training and did not participate in the invasion of HAINAN Island.
66th Army received no gas training or equipment.
PW has never heard of the Iron & Steel Brigade.
He knows of no Japanese units in the CCF.
As far as PW knows, the CCF has no paratroops or armored units.
Monthly pay for various grades in the 66th Army were as follows:
EM: 12,000 HOPEH Yuan or 100,000 Manchurian Yuan.
Platoon Leaders and Co Commanders: 16,000 HOPEH Yuan or 150,000 Manchurian Yuan.
CNA soldiers and equipment are integrated into CCF units capturing them.
PW has never been informed by his officers as to why the CCF is in KOREA.
