ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2782　2 January 1951

FIELD REPORT (IX CORPS MISD - 0203)　16 December 1950

PW was cooperative and gave information freely during interrogation. Information contained herein is considered reliable. Recommended for further interrogation of general information.

a. The 8th Ind Inf Regt was organized 31 Oct 50 near ICHON with approx 1000 men. The Regt roamed the area of ICHON and constantly separated into Bn’s and Co’s. While PW’s Bn was near SO Myon (CT0654) it was subjected to tank shelling, breaking his unit into CO’s. On another occasion, PW’s Company was strafed by aircraft at NAECHON (CT2327). 7 Dec 50, PW’s Company, with a plat from another Co, arrived at CHOKKO RI (CT2725). The PW’s Co mission was to observe the main road, running from SIBYON NI to YONCHON, for enemy troop movements. 12 Dec, while on guard duty, PW and 3 others of his plat were captured by ROK troops.

b. 12 Dec 50, PW heard from his Co CO that the 8th Ind Inf Regt Hqs was located in MAJON NI (CT3431) and the 3rd Bn Hqs approximately 3 kms N of CHOKKO RI. He did not know the exact location.

c. PW’s 3rd Co had 70-80 men armed with 23 Russ and Jap rifles, 2 US Carbines, 5 SMGs and Hand Grenades.

d. PW heard from his Co CO, on 12 Dec that the 4th Div, 18th Regt was stationed in SIBYON NI (BT9942) and the 9th Div was stationed in YONCHON (CT3117). However, exact location of the CP’s or the unit’s deployment was unknown.

e. The 18th Regt, 4th Div, was composed of Koreans with prior service or experience in the CCF 8th Route Army and considered the toughest of all NK units under the II Corps.

PW was told by his Co CO that the II Corps was composed of the 4th Div, 9th Div, 15th Div, 6th Div and 8th Ind Inf regt.

PW stated that at the present there are three Corps; the I, II and III, however, he did not know their sectors.

f. Personalities:

II Corps CG: CH’OE Hyon (崔献), Rank unknown.

8th Ind Inf Regt CO: KIM Song (金成), Col, Age 35-40.

3rd Bn CO: KIM Sa Am (金士岩), Major, Age 40 (approx).

CH’OE Hyon was formerly the commander of Security Units for the entire NK Regime and was the step-brother of KIM Il Sung.
