ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO 2780　2 January 1951

FIELD REPORT (IX CORPS MISD - 0201)　15 December 1950

PW had a limited education and only four months of military experience of which three were spent in guerrilla warfare. Therefore PW was unable to give detailed information. Not recommended for further interrogation.

a. 8th Ind Regt consisted of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bns. Its present strength consists of approx 1100.

Regtl Hqs was located at TAEGWANG NI (CT3427) o/a 3 Dec 50. Since the Regt was always on the move, the present location Regtl Hqs is unknown.

3rd Bn (Present strength approx 200) Hqs was located at CHOKKO RI (Approx 10 kms NE of YONCHON) on 13 Dec, with its three Cos situated in the vicinity.

3rd Co Hqs located approximately 4 kms NE of CHOKKO RI 13 Dec.

O/a 1 Dec, PW heard from a friend, KIM, Sang Dong (Sqd Ldr) that the 27th Div was located at PYONGGANG (CT5153). Present whereabouts unknown.

O/a 7 Dec, PW heard from his Co CO that the 4th Div was located in the vicinity of TOSAN (CT1240). Present whereabouts unknown.

b. 3rd Bn had one 60mm Mort (60 rds), one LMG, and approx 100 rifles (approx 15 rds per rifle).

c. There was no new issue of equipment or food.

d. The mission of the 8th Ind Regt was to conduct guerrilla warfare against ROK units which marched on the main road from TOSAN to YONCHON. Their intention was to attack only when they were superior in number or stronger than the ROK units. PW and five others were sent to CHOKKO RI to observe and keep a lookout for the approaching ROK units and were to report their observation back to the Co Hqs.

e. PW did not see any propaganda leaflets or hear any broadcasts. He did not see or hear of the presence of CCF troops in the vicinity of his unit area.
