1. PERSONAL DETAILS:

2. ASSESSMENT:
PW was very cooperative and sincere.
Information seems fairly reliable.

3. PERSONAL AND UNIT HISTORY:
PW was inducted 14 Sep 50 at PYONGYANG.
Without receiving any training, he was assigned to the 7th Div, 16th Ind Regt, 1st Bn, 1st Co, 1st plat, CHORWON (CT4235) on 18 Sep 50.
After retreating from SEOUL, 30 Sep 50, the entire 7th Div (hearsay) was disorganized en route North.
ICHON (CT1563), parts of the 7th Div units were reorganized as the 8th Ind Regt, and integrated into the II Corps o/a 30 Nov 50.
PW was assigned to the 8th Ind Regt, 3rd Bn, 3rd Co, 2nd Plat, 1st Sqd, until his desertion 13 Dec 50 at CHUNG MYON (CT2525).
PW was a 2nd Lt for three days with the 8th Ind Regt but was demoted to Pvt because he once intended to desert his unit.

4. T/O & E AND STRENGT OF THE II CORPS, 8th Ind Regt, 3rd Bn, 3rd Co, 2nd Plat, 1st Sqd.
PW did not know the exact components of the II Corps other than the 8th Ind Regt which was organized in the vicinity of ICHON (伊川) on 30 Oct 50.
The 8th Ind Regt was composed of 3 Inf Co’s, 1 HMG Co, 1 Sig Unit and 1 Supply Unit.
The 3rd Co was composed of 3 Rifle Plat’s (1st, 2nd and 3rd).
The 2nd Plat was composed of 3 Rifle Sqds (1st, 2nd and 3rd).

5. LOCATION & ACTIVITIES OF UNITS:
From 30 Nov to 13 Dec 50, the 3rd Co was located in mountains, in the vicinity of CHUNG-MYON, along highways.
The mission of the 3rd Co was to harass the UN troops if they passed through mountain routes.
PW with three other troops deserted from a mountain (vicinity of CHUNG-MYON) 13 Dec 50 (exact location unknown).
8th Ind Regt Hq was located at MAJON-NI, 30 Nov 50.
3rd Bn Hq was located approx 6 Km to the rear of the 3rd Company at the time of PW’s desertion, 13 Dec 50.

6. PERSONALITIES:

7. FOOD AND AMMO SUPPLIES:
Food supply was maintained locally by confiscation.
Ammo supply was very scarce.
Troops did not receive any additional ammo supply. They had an average of 15 rds of S/A ammo left from their initial issues in the early part of this war.

8. MORALE:
Morale of the 3rd Bn troops was low due to lack of food and clothing. Furthermore, about 50% of them wanted to desert from the unit.

9. SIGNAL INFORMATION:
A field telephone was used between Bn and Regt Hqs if they were located within 4 Km distance. Otherwise runners were used.

10. PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE:
Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?
Yes, PW surrendered voluntarily because he was without food or clothing in this cold weather.
