ATIS INTERROGATION REPORT NO. 2774　3 January 1951

FIELD REPORT (164 MISDI - 1288)　15 December 1950

Inducted into the Ind 3rd Bn, 3rd Co, 3rd Plat, 3rd Sqd, 30 Aug 50, MUNCHON. Received no basic training.

While traveling to CHUNG MYON from MUNCHON, the following places were passed:

5 men, including the PW, deserted their unit, and while they were going home, they were captured by the NKA Ind 8th Regt at YONCHON, 14 soldiers lived and worked with a farmer. 20 Oct 50, at YONCHON, these men were placed into the Ind 8th Regt. PW was placed into the 3rd Bn, 3rd Co, 2nd Plat, 2nd Sqd.

Regt remained on mountain at YONCHON.

The 1st Bn, 2nd Bn and the 1st and 2nd Co of the 3rd Bn had weapons, and they conducted guerrilla warfare with the UN forces. The 3rd Co, which had no weapons, performed supply procurement duties.

3rd Co of the 3rd Bn, 1st Bn and 2nd Bn arrived at SO MYON.

From here, the 1st Bn and 2nd Bn left for SIBYON-NI, Oct 50. The 3rd Co, 3rd Bn, left SO MYON, d/u Oct 50, marched to ANHYOP d/u Nov 50.

8th Regt departed ANHYOP, 7 Nov 50, and marched to CHORWON, arriving 15 Nov 50.

8th Regt Hq left CHORWON, marched, arriving MAJON NI, 27 Nov 50.

3rd Co, 3rd Bn, left MAJON NI, 27 Nov 50, and arrived CHUNG MYON, 29 Nov 50.

1 Dec 50, while 6 soldiers were on patrol, 4 were captured and 2 escaped when attacked by ROK troops.

3rd Co: 3 Rifle Plat’s

2nd Plat: 3 Rifle Sqd’s

Ind 8th Regt Hq was located at MAJON NI (CT 3330).

1st and 2nd Bn’s were located at CHORWON (CT 4334).

1st and 2nd Co’s, 3rd Bn, were located at YONCHON (CT 3116).

3rd Co, 3rd Bn, at CHUNG MYON (CT 2824) “CHOKKO RI”.

3rd Bn Hq at CHUNG MYON, “ONNAMUKOL”.

PW heard that the II Corps Hq was located at CHORWON.

The mission of the Ind 8th Regt was to harass UN Forces between YONCHON and SIBYON NI (Approx 126° 38’ - 38° 17’).

Ever since PW was placed into the Ind 8th Regt, 20 Oct 50, YONCHON, no repl were seen by PW.

Food supplies were gathered from farm villages and am supplies were acquired from battle grounds. No other sources.

The morale in PW’s unit was low because they lacked am.

Communications between plat, Co and Bn were by messengers.

1. Did you surrender voluntarily? If so, why?

a. PW was captured by the ROK troops. PW did not voluntarily surrender to the ROK troops because he was indoctrinated that he would be killed.

2. Did you see any United Nations leaflets or hear any loudspeaker broadcasts?

a. PW did not see any leaflets or hear any broadcasts.
