FIELD REPORT (24 Div - LDI - 0135)　28 December 1950

PW voluntarily surrendered to the 19th Regt (ROK). Had severe frostbitten feet. Information obtained considered fairly reliable. Recommended for further interrogation at higher headquarters.

Rcn Co composed of thirty two enlisted men and eight officers. On 19 Dec 50, PW and thirteen others were ordered to estimate the strength and learn the disposition of South Korean and US forces in SEOUL and INCHON area. They were also ordered to estimate the number of Japanese troops in South KOREA. They were to report back to Rcn Co Hqs by 28 Dec 50.

PW stated that they departed KUMHWA CT6638 on 19 Dec and arrived CHUNG NI CT4318 20 Dec by mountain trails. Vicinity of 38th parallel PW and one other was left behind due to frostbitten feet. They were told to carry out their mission to the best of their ability. PWs were unable to proceed further and surrendered to elements of the 19th Regt (ROK). When confined, PW saw four others from his unit who had also been captured. PW heard other patrols were sent out but number and mission unknown.

II Corps located at CHORWON CT4434. Composition of II Corps unknown to PW. Heard from civilian that large numbers of CCF arrived in CHORWON 22 Dec. Between KUMHWA and CHONGNI observed approx 50 NK troops.
